I'm not Jim but I don't see the point in bringing in Maddinson, I don't think he has it between the ears and he was in his prime a few years ago, he is now 30.

Having a look through the options, we are a bit skint on young middle order batters in form, Philippe stands out, the other kids are mainly openers.

We have a plethora of 28-31 year olds getting amongst it, even Kurtis is getting on a bit now, I wonder if he'd ever want to play for Australia again and risk tarnishing that 144 average.

Because he took a six wicket haul to bowl Australia to victory in the most recent test match and was named man of the match. The selectors, coach and captain have obviously backed him to go again, not that much of a surprise he retained his spot I would of thought.

Yeah I get that but Richardson was very good in the 2nd test as well.
I think Richardson is the better long term player so we should keep playing him when fit.

Though it would be very hard to drop Boland also

6/7 may have something to do with it, he is more like for like for Hazelwood too IMO.

Richardson would be more like for like with Cummins I reckon, if there is such a thing.

Any mug can take 6/7 against these useless twats! ;)

Yeah agreed Richardson is and will be the better long term player but Boland couldn't of been dropped after his performance.

Any thoughts?

I thought Chappell could've been higher up the list, I didn't see bugger all of Simpson so I can't judge him, Mark Waugh deserves the top mantle and I thought AB was more of a gully or a mid wicket type operator.

Warnie used to go alright in the slips too for memory.

Those 5 were all good slip fieldsmen
Warne , agree was also , did notice that the top 5 were all great batsmen as well

Ian Chappell must have been considered for top 5 as well

Wouldn't the first bloke dropped after what he thought was a stellar performance.

Hand-eye co-ordination.
Bowlers are normally more agile, therefore occupy the positions where they chase etc.
4 of them were captains so they pick the position where they have to do less work ;)
Mark Waugh was just an outright freak and could've easily been our most successful batter ever had he batted with more patience, but we loved the flair and that's what scored him the runs.

Watching him and Gilly bat together on their day was pure elegance.

Ponting wasn’t a bad slipper from memory.
Maybe not quite as good as the 5 mentioned though

We were spoiled for those three years 1999-2002

Hayden, Langer, Ponting, M Waugh, S Waugh, D Martyn, Gilchrist, Warne, Lee, Gillespie, McGrath as the pre-dominant 11

F*** we had it good back then

Warnie dropped a couple of important ones, e.g. '05 Ashes, so he wouldn't make my top five.

Simpson and M. Waugh equal top for mine.

I don' mind the thought of Maddinson LM, these are his averages over the last 3 years in FC for Vic.
Current 20/21 Ave 31.08 0 tons
19/20 Ave 86.6 2 tons
18/19 Ave 80.42 3 tons
Career Ave 39.97 14 tons

So I think he is still in his prime & at 30 its not too late. He's a good player of spin & should be in the squad for all our up-coming sub continent tours, I'd back him to get more runs than Head & Green on some of the big turning pitches we will see over there.

I'd like to see him maintain his shield form and yes, his ability to play spin is a handy asset moving forward, I just question his mindset, he's been given opportunities in the past but seemed to not want to grab them by the throat.

England have also named their 11 for the forth test-
Haseeb Hameed
Zak Crawley
Dawid Malan
Joe Root (c)
Ben Stokes
Jonny Bairstow
Jos Buttler
Mark Wood
Jack Leach
Stuart Broad
Jimmy Anderson

Broad in for Robinson.

They're persevering with Leach, hmm, I guess it's his ability to act as a nightwatchman if required that gives him the edge.

I think Joe Root has him covered as a spinner in all facets.

For one of the most uncoordinated persons ever Ashley Mallet (RIP) was sensational in the gully, took some absolute blinders there
