Opening bowlers must love starting an innings knowing they have a bloke they can steam in at and not be worried about any level of attacking threat. Has to hurt the rest of the team as well with such a defensive mentality.

You’d think training indoors he can condition to it, they have stuff else to do with their time, spend most of it in the nets.

He clearly bats for survival, he faced 50 odd balls, he gets anxiety issues trying to score.

I wonder how many of his runs this series were intended, not mis-hits or edges?

I don’t know whether the ECB have been smart or stupid by continuing to play him? Has it destroyed him or will it assist him knowing he won’t face this sort of attack for a few more years.

Our attack is relentless for an opener, you’re generally 20 overs away from a bit of respite, and that is Lyon.

I like Kreepy, he takes it up to the bowlers, I hope he goes well.

Crawley looks like he has a lot to work with. You could see him doing very well against the West Indies in their next series.

The lad has some balls, it’s been the difference between who has shown anything for the Poms this season and who hasn’t.

You can’t just occupy the crease with this attack, you need to attack back, you seen it with Stokes a couple of times, Tubby Bairstow and Root on a few occasions.

Play your shots, the same ball is probably gonna get you out so make some runs before that ball comes.

Absolutely. Crawley attacking just looks and extension of his defensive shots rather than get all out of shape. Also seems to score no problems 360 around the wicket off both full and short balls. Seems like he will be a hard batsmen to tie down and set a field to.

He definitely has earnt his flight to the windies and a chance to cash in.

Dave Malan averaged 56 after his first 3 digs this series, he’s dragged that down to 26 since.

Confidence is a massive thing with the bat.

In all seriousness Carey will stay for the next test but the discussion will now start.

His batting is never going to be up to it, he doesn’t have a test match mentality….first innings dismissal point in case.

If his keeping isn’t 100% which it’s no where near at the moment his spot is at risk

Sadly for Carey if his being graded this series he gets either a D or 4/10 at absolute best. Probably our worst performer this series.

Btw I would personally go with Philippe. Reckon his batting could grow to be seriously world class and out bluntly he couldn’t keep any worse than Carey has this series so that doesn’t really come into it.

Too right brother, Carey may have got the gig by default but no one else is smashing the door down atm.

He isn’t brilliant, he isn’t crap and by the time the next bloke is ready to step up, Carey will more than likely find some form again.

It’s been a massive step up for him, sitting there eating his coco pops one morning and hearing of the Paine scandal as Karl presents it on the tv, next thing you know he’s playing Ashes cricket.

I’m backing him to find his feet, he has the talent, just needs to relax and feel that he belongs there.
