It's the big picture though that is showcasing Warners's decline.

Since our summer started, he has had what......1 great innings, 1 par innings (first t20 innings for the thunder and im being kind) and then close to 10 failures. That paints a pretty big picture.

Did he do well in the ODI's or T20's we had at the start of the summer, i cant remember.

By the end of 2023 :

Test matches - We'll need to replace Warner and Khawaja at the top of the order. With Renshaw still in the selectors minds I think he will be one, perhaps Harris the other.

Smith will be 34 so we won't be far away from needing to replace him so in the next 12 months we need to have 3 top 4 batters ready to go. Big ask.

With Carey established in the 'keeper role and our fast bowling stocks deep it's the above that's the most pressing, so, who?

Renshaw
Hunt / Harris

And who for Smith?
PAFC. Forever.

Agree, good call by Whufc I reckon but he just needs to get a game ahead of Rahul and Rohit first, he might end up playing in the series against Aus depending on how both of them go, moreso Rahul. At 35 Rohit wouldn't have long left anyway.

Yeah thats the trick.....for me he has the game to be successful in India and abroad.

I'm not sure I've seen a better cricketer in the last few years at hitting through the offside.

A lot like many aussie cricketers before who have had to be dropped/struggled to get into the side i think once Gil is back in that experience will hold him in good stead.

Aussie Openers: I think Warner will retire after the Test Championship final in England & therefore not play the ashes. Renshaw will then open with Uzi. Uzi will play out the next Aussie summer then retire. He & Davy have said publicly they don't want to retire at the same time & leave the team in a huge hole. I think Harris will get another look in before Hunt just for that second opener spot.

Middle Order/Keeper: Set for the next few years till Smith wants to retire. If Trav can ave + 30 in India that will be a win.

Bowlers: Quick are in great shape. Cummins & Hazlewood are must starts each test, I can't believe how much as a nation we underrate Hazlewood & how good he has been. Starc to go around at least one more Aussie summer, then Richardson or Morris to come in.

Biggest Concern: I think the biggest concern facing our future is the real lack of talent that seems to be coming out of NSW currently. Rightly or wrongly NSW players often make up over 50% of our test teams. Looking at their current squad of the youngsters listed only Tanveer Sanhga looks a future star to me. Maybe the Davis brothers might come on in white ball cricket, if they don't head to the Windies to play quicker. A weak NSW means a weak Australia IMO.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

I think Pucovski will make it back by the time Khawaja retires. Renshaw to step in when Warner retires.

Will be interesting to see if Todd Murphy bowls in tandem with Lyon in India. I'm not sure Agar or Swepson are the answer, despite offering a point of difference.

Probably for a 3rd time, it would be ideal as we'll have a left/right opening combo, unfortunately I can't see Will playing test cricket again, it is too risky IMO.

Murphy probably will. it will be to the detriment of Lyon though IMO.
