VIC 200[49.3 overs]
TAS 145'[43 overs]

SA should take note on how VI beat TA in the o/d game at the MCG
Defending a modest 200 Cameron White's brilliant attacking captaincy
with a no name bowling attack bowled the Tasmanian super dooper
batting line up which included Ricky Ponting for 145.
White had the field up saving the single at all times and made the running.
SA allowed too many easy singles in the narrow loss to NSW last week.

Ponting won the toss and sent the Vics in.
White was the outstanding batsman scoring 50 and out unluckily to a
deflection from the bowlers hand at the non strikers end.
At 8/154 0ff 38 overs the game was in the Tasmanians keeping.
Debutant number 10 Mckay made a good 27 and the Vics scrambled to 200.
Hilfenhaus was outstanding again with 2/33[a future National player]

The Tassies with a line up of
Paine, Divinuto,Ponting,Birt,Bailey and Marsh
vrs the no namers
Lewis,Denton,Mcdonald,Moss, Mckay,Lindsay and White
should have won this in a canter.
At 0/50 and 3/108 they were on line for a bonus point as well.
White was outstanding the way he rotated his attack and applied
pressure at all times.
Paine made 56 what a talent.
Pontings controversial caught behind[ appeared off the pad] was a turning point.
Moss 10 overs 1/20 put the screws on the Tassies.
Lewis 3/32 was a return to form.
Mckay on debut took the last wicket and impressed.
The Victorians fielded superbly, Mckays run out on Marsh was brilliant.

Man of match went deservedly to John Moss.
I though White should have got it for his 50 for his captaincy and
the wise descision not to bowl himself!!!

A couple of other points,
Hilfenhaus I think was dismissed for the first time in o/dayers[amazing if thats right]
Mcdonald looks like a red headed David Wildy.

Good win Vics, hopefully SA took note how to beat the Tasmanians, whom we
play next.

I think if our openers can keep out Hilfenhaus and Griffiths early in the p/c and o/d
games we should win both games, Tassies lack bowling depth.

S/DOG what do we do with Tim Paine ?
He keeps in the o/d games and successfully opens the batting.
In the p/c games he is an opener who has made a 200 recently
but does not keep in the longer form.

I reckon he should not keep as is the case in the longer form and concentate
on his blossoming career withthe bat
BUT
Keeping/Batting might be his best gateway to playing for Australia.

This happened a couple of decades ago with another player in the same
circumstances in SA Coach Wayne Phillips and we saw the results.
Phillips also an opener come keeper was sacrificed as a keeper ??????????
Mr fixit ultimately lost his spot.
I guess you do what gets you in the team at the time, that decision was right.

'Mr Fixit' lost his spot because he called the selectors a pack of idiots. Pretty astute coach you have there boys. Regarding Tim Paine, I hate to say I told you so but.......

Australian keeper of the future.
