I cant see why Jaques cant get in at 6 ahead of Clarke. This guy is banging the door down. Why must he be an opener. Look at the way Blewett and Hussey started their careers at test level. 5 and 6. Clarke hasnt had to work hard enough 4 his spot nor has he performed as well as jaques at 1st class level. Nor has clarke performed aswell as players in years gone by like bevan and lehmann who were never smooched on the tockley like clarke.

On form I think Cameron White and Brad Haddin are two of the best players in the country at the moment aswell. Both are striking the ball magnificently even tho they would be left field selections.. Not to mention old Darren.

Im not convinced clarke is safe enough defensively for a big series like this yet.

In actual fact the more I think about it it is a disgrace Jaques cant get ahead of clarke. number 6 is where so many players get thier 1st chance and it should be jaques.

i am of the view the selectors will dump langer if he doesnt reach 50 in brisbane or adelaide.

Don't worry Dash, if you have a look at the "Watson - made of glass" thread, you will see that there are a few of us that agree with you.

Have to agree dash, but realistically if the best line up was to be picked Langer wouldn't be in it and Jaques would be opening. Langer is on borrow time and is only in the side based on his past performances and the fact that his attitude is so good.

Agree about Lehmann as well. Surely there aren't currently 6 batsmen in Australia better than him?

Clarke is the next best batsman since Ponting. Give him time, he will deliver. Jaques will get his turn when Langer or Hayden fail/retire.

And when he does then pick him

Should pick the best player for the position and Jaques is better than Langer currently. I'm not saying Langer won't do a good job or is terribly out of form but Jaques is just a better player right now.

JL is the man end of story, he has the form oin the board in the last month and the selection credits from scoring 4000+ runs in the last six years to get the gig today, his innings today confirmed that.

However I think these will be the last five tests of his career, He'll either retire or the selctors will make the generation change for the 1st test against SL in Novemeber next year...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
