QL 8/235

Batting first have set an imposing target on a low slow difficult pitch.
The no name VIC bowling attack was well handled by skipper WHITE.
Missing were quicks LEWIS/WISE/DENTON/HARWOOD/SIDDLE.
The quick attack was MCKAY/PATTISON/LINDSAY/MCDONALD/MOSS.
Mckay did well 1/34 in his 2nd game continues to impress.

At 2/95 of about 20 overs QLD were cruising with experienced Andy SMASHMONDS
and Jimmy MAHERSSACRE until the ***champ*** Cam WHITE came on to bowl.
WHITE dismissed Simmo 44[62] + MAHER 43[82] and finished with 3/41 of 10 overs.
WHITE now has 6 wkts in his last 2 od games, a West Indies call beckons.

My other boy Jimmy HOPES who is held in great esteem up north was made to
open the batting and was out for 7[14] LBW to a ball which was too high.

3 decisions went against VIC for c/behinds + lbw today.
Unpire Paul pistol RIEFELL made one of the 50/50 decisions.

Special mention to born again Ashley NOFFKE who has had one of the
biggest weeks of his life.
In the p/cup game he came in at 8/140 and made 81 not out an outstanding effort.
QLD win the hard fought game and then NOFFKE caught a flight back to QLD
where he joined his new born 2nd son young Will Noffke.
Thats dedication playing a p/cup game and missing witnessing his kid born.
He flew back to Melbourne today and came in at 8/227 with 2 balls remaining.
First ball hits a 6 what a week + 8 off 2 balls.

8/235 is not a large score, but QLD look capable of defending the total,
unless HODGE/HUSSEY and the dynamic irrepressable WHITE get big runs.
QLD will rely on Jimmy HOPES for a bag of wickets

QLD 226
VIC 217

QLD win an absolute thriller in the 50th over in a controversal game
marred by appalling umpiring in both innings, most decisions favouring QLD.
Vic at 3/72 were struggling until a great partnership between KLINGER and
and impressive debutant Robert QUINEY got them to 3/151 and cruising towards
victory until my boy Jimmy ***HOPES*** got QUINNEY out lbw for 39[57]

At 4/173 we saw the most bizzare incident which without doubt turned the game.
KLINGER 79[124] was amazingly run out by the acrobatic Jimmy ***HOPES****
who followed up his delivery by sprinting down the pitch and running out KLINGER.
Although it was sensational effort by HOPES I feel the 3rd umpire made an absolute
blunder, KLINGER was in by 18 inches, diving into his ground and the bat was elevated
slightly in the air, evidence clearly inconclusive and at the time I had thought a certain not out.
KLINGER rightly was disgusted with the decision.

BICHEL with 3 late wickets 3/45 got QLD home in a thriller.
At 6/211 with 25 of 24 MCDONALD was brilliantly caught behind by HARTLEY of BICHELL.

AT 8/217 we saw another clanger by umpire Paul REIFFEL when CROTHSWAITE was clearly
run out and RIEFELL did not ask for the 3rd umpire, this time the bat was clearly in the
air past the crease but OUT.

VIC needed 10 off the last over, CROTSHWAITE was caught at long off and QLD pulled
off a victory, although the VIC's were on the wrong end of the umpiring.

MAN OF THE MATCH was the unfortunate Micheal KLINGER.

Robert QUINNEY on debut looked a million $$$$ did well under enoumous pressure,
looks fluent and a talent, I think will be better suited in the p/cup form.

HOPES 2/42 starred again with the ball despite unvalidated criticism by DUTCHY.
WHITE 3/41 starred again as well.

Great game.

KLINGER was asked after the game about the run out.
" You all saw the TV replay....." was his reply.

Run out by HOPES and given out by a hopeless 3rd ump.

AG you wuz robbed as well mate.

so what is the verdict on Paul REIFFEL

he has obviously had a shocker today, but the ACB seem very keen to fast track him

my personal view, I do like the concept of ex players trying to become first grade umpires

SD the 2nd run out he actually showed what appeared to be commonsense
The batsman made his ground by about 2 feet, but the bat was not grounded,
no QLD fieldsmen complained and I tought at the time " well done Paul most
umpys waste time by calling for the 3rd ump."
Considering it was at 8/217, it might ave cost QLD a victory.
He was abit stiff, as for the poor decisions I reckon most involved the other umpy.

He has umpired well in previous games.

In the first review I mentioned how Jimmyboy was out to a dubious LBW
decision to a ball which looked too high.
QLD opened him, such is the confidence in the great mans abilities.

Once again in the field tonight the wickets + run outs contributed heavily
towards a Bulls victory.

He should be taken to the West Indies to wear Shane Watsons underpants
when the other champ gets injured.

Dunno if there is room for him & Symonds and Watson in the X1 and at the moment they are clearly going for the latter 2. I reckon he is solid! Worth a chance in the VB series leading into World Cup

Was either foot grounded at the time the wicket was broken? The only way the batsman can be not out if nothing is grounded behind the line is if both feet have already been grounded in the crease. If that didn't happen, then Pistol stuffed up.
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run

mal, Hopes has been given chances at international level. Has failed to deliver. May as well take Mick Lewis to th WI's as well

At the end of the day one day cricket is just a bastardised version of a great sport anyway so i don't really care who goes to the WI's.

A bit harsh rodney LOL. I know mally goes a bit over the top in his Hopesy love but I wouldn't exactly put Hopes in the Mick Lewis category. Generally I would agree with you about one day cricket but this is the World Cup..the one event that actually gets remembered a few years later. To me that is the 'mickey mouse' test of geniune sporting events.
