I hope Symonds goes well in this match - I think he is an enormously talented and exciting cricketer. I hope he gives himself every chance to let his attacking style flourish in the test arena. At the moment I think he is a better option as the Australian test all-rounder than Watson, especially when it comes to batting.

He has got a mountain of pressure building above him though to perform and maintain his spot in the side, as age is definitely not on his side.

From what I've seen Symonds has the Michael Bevan syndrome of struggling against the rising ball. As soon as he comes in I'd bring on Flintoff and bowl at his throat with a bat pad, leg gully. That's the great thing about Test cricket. A batsman needs to be complete or he'll get found out.

The game is on ABC radio but like me, you may have forgotten that Perth is 2.5 hrs behind Adelaide so the game didn't start until 1pm.

Great to hear the Barmy Army's trumpet resonating in the background!

Cheers - forgot about the 3 yr trial in WA! It seems strange to have an 11.30 start time tho! Must be the channel 9 influence to get the broadcast into Vic and NSW to finish at 8.30pm there and allow the final session to start at 6.30pm AEST - hence they can still run their news at 6.10pm at tea and 'capture' a bigger audience.

Giles has been sent out of the dining room so as the rest of the team can sign his farewell card!

I wonder if the Perth Crowd/TV audience will get to see the "FULL Monty" ?? Another good reason to stick with the ABC radio commentary team. (Geez Kerry O'Keefe would be great to listen to if the Full Monty did present himself on the field of play!).

Symonds gone for 26. Feel for him a bit. He was looking really good and quite comfortable. Got a wide long hop and somehow managed to nick it rather than put it away. Any other batsman in the world would've played the same shot. Perhaps he just tried to hit it a bit hard.

Gilchrist just gone. Australia in strife now. Hussey needs to make a very big score and get plenty of support from Warne and Lee.

6/172

Panesar has 3 for now.
