Australia, with their 70th win in 99 ODIs against New Zealand, recorded a series win over New Zealand, retaining the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy.

Australia’s two-run triumph is the narrowest victory margin by any team at Westpac Stadium. New Zealand’s four-run win over Pakistan on 17.1.2004 was the previous narrowest victory-margin at this venue.

Australia’s victory by 2 runs is their narrowest win over New Zealand. Australia had defeated New Zealand by three runs on three previous occasions – Indore (19.10.1987); Auckland (28.3.1993) and Melbourne (16.12.1993).

Australia recorded their second successive win over New Zealand at Wellington – they had won the previous game at this venue by 10 runs on 19.2.2005.

New Zealand’s 320 is their highest innings total vs. Australia, bettering their 301 for 9 at Christchurch on 26.2.2000.

New Zealand recorded their highest total in New Zealand, bettering their 307 for eight vs. Pakistan at Wellington on 17.1.2004.

New Zealand’s 320 is the sixth highest by a team batting second in ODIs.

New Zealand's 320 is their highest score without an individual century against Australia and their second highest in ODIs without an individual hundred, next only to their 338 for 4 against Bangladsh at Sharjah on 28.4.1990.

New Zealand's 320 is the highest ever score in New Zealand without an individual century, bettering Sri Lanka's 313 for 7 against Zimbabwe at New Plymouth on 23.2.1992.

New Zealand's 320 is their highest score without a century partnership.

Australia (322/5) registered their highest total at Wellington, surpassing their 297 for six vs. New Zealand on 10.2.1998.

The match aggregate of 642-15 is the best ever at Wellington and the second best in New Zealand, next only to 650/15 between Australia (349/6) and New Zealand (301/9) at Christchurch on 26.2.2000.

Andrew Symonds (156 off 127 balls) posted his career best score, bettering his 143 not out against Pakistan at Wanderers in the 2002-03 World Cup.

Symonds has now recorded three centuries in ODIs – all on foreign soil.

Symonds’ 156 is the highest score by an Australian against New Zealand and the third best for Australia in ODIs, next only to 173 by Mark Waugh vs. West Indies at Melbourne on 9.2.2001 and Adam Gilchrist’s 172 vs. Zimbabwe at Bellerive on 16.1.2004.

Ricky Ponting’s 141 not out at Napier on 5.3.2005 was the previous highest for Australia against New Zealand.

Symonds now holds the record for the highest individual innings at Westpac Stadium, Wellington. The only other centurion at this venue is 111 by Alistair Campbell for Zimbabwe against New Zealand on 4.1.2001.

Symonds, when on 55, completed his 3000 runs in 129 ODIs.

Symonds, with 8 sixes in his 156, emulated Ricky Ponting's record of most sixes in an innings by an Australian in ODIs. Ponting, during his unbeaten innings of 140 against India in the 2002-03 World Cup Final at Johannesburg.

Symonds became the first batsman to hit eight sixes in an innings in New Zealand.

Symonds, with 96 runs in boundaries (eight sixes and twelve fours), has established an Australian record for most runs in boundaries in an innings.

Symonds got his 12th Man of the Match award.

Matthew Hayden’s 71 against New Zealand on 19.2.2005 was the previous highest for Australia at Westpac Stadium, Wellington.

Michael Clarke (82 not out off 77 balls) posted his highest against New Zealand, bettering his 71 not out off 75 balls at Auckland on 26.2.2005.

Clarke’s 11th fifty is his third against New Zealand in 12 games.

The 220-run stand between Symonds and Clarke is an Australian record for the fifth wicket, bettering the 172 (unbroken) between Darren Lehmann and Michael Bevan against West Indies at Grenada on 14.4.1999.

The aforesaid partnership is the second best for the fifth wicket in ODIs, next only to the 223 between Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja for India against Sri Lanka at Colombo, RPS in 1997-98.

Brett Lee (10-0-85-1) emulated his own record of conceding 85 runs in ten overs. At Cardiff on 9.6.2001, he had conceded 85 runs off 10 overs (10-1-85-1) against Pakistan. Lee is the only Australian bowler to concede 80 runs in an innings and that too thrice.

Chris Cairns (60 off 52 balls) posted his 26th fifty – his sixth against Australia in 41 matches.

Lou Vincent (71 off 49 balls) registered his highest in New Zealand, bettering his 53 not out against India at Auckland on 11.1.2003.

Vincent’s 71 is highest against Australia – his second fifty against Australia is his 7th overall in ODIs.

McCullum (48 off 33 balls) recorded his second highest in New Zealand, next only to his 56 not out off 51 balls against Pakistan at Queenstown on 7.1.2004.

The last and first time the Chappell Hadlee Trophey was contested was in Aust and it was 1 all with a wash out, so both teams had hold of it.

Did Symonds reach 50 off of 16 balls? If so, is that the quickest half century? Hm balls for his 100?
