They'd probably have to get a clearance from the RSPCA though to play the Jack Russell.

How old was Funky Miller when he debuted for Australia?

Bob Holland?
I do see what Punk is getting at though. If he's the keeper for these matches, surely he'll be their keeper for the World Cup?

I don't think Nixon has done too much wrong with his keeping so far i.e. in the 20/20 game plus tonight's match.
He looks to be in excellent nick fitness-wise and his reflexes are sharp. With the increased fitness levels of cricketers these days age is not so relevant.

Why have they been perservering with Geraint Jones then? or why isn't Read keeping?
Don'y they have a young keeper with potential they could blood/through in the deep end?

Nixon will want to score a heap of runs this series to justify leaving Read (or even Jones) out. I can understand if they were to go with a keeper who batted in the top order in one-day internationals, but why go with a 36 year old who bats in the traditional keeper position and doesn't look to be all that flash anyway?
England's on-field performance this summer is almost as bad as their off-field decisions. And that's saying something. Any respect they earnt in 2005 has been put back along way on this tour. I hope New Zealand are competitive.

Dunno, Jarman introduced Mick Haseldine to league footy at 30, perhaps he has some Pom in him?

That geriatric 36yo keeper did make a handy 30 in the 20/20 game on
debut in this country.
That 30 is the highest score by an English keeper this tour perhaps.
Lets give him a few games and then pass an accurate judgement.

This is off topic I know but is that story true Wedgie that a couple of years ago Haseldine was on the booze with Jarman and said that he'd like to come to North for a run and Jarman said "yeah, yeah come on down" and then the next time the subject was raised with Andrew Newton, he couldn't remember asking him to North?
Is he going on this year? Thought he was a bit unlucky not to play a bit more league last year.

30 in a 20/20 'match'? BWAHAHAHA. Talk about an underachiever. All he has is the flick to leg, nothing on the offside. Nothing to see here lads.

REB Im not defending or critiscing NIXON
Today he made 15[22] and a winning partnership with Flintoff to get EG over the line v NZ
Yeah a 36 yo keeper on debut this series is strange, but reserve judgement on him.
He has 16 first class centurys with an average of 32, so he has ability.

He averages 30 in county cricket and you reckon that stacks up? I reckon Nixon is limited to the extreme. I'll be proven wrong when he is put under real pressure and actually plays a cover drive and guides England home to a victory but somehow I think that aint gonna happen.

Well he has been picked for the LIMITED overs games.............
But why would anyone pick a 36 year old to keep wickets, probably the most physically taxing role in cricket? I don't care how fit this bloke is, he has a very LIMITED future in international cricket. Perhaps this is the ECB trying to stir up both Read and Jones in an effort for one of these two under achievers to stand up and actually perform? Weird theory but we are talking about the Poms
