Just for the record, I've never been one to subscribe in the theory of NSW bias. Over the years, NSW has been far and away our most successful cricket state, so it's only natural to have more players from NSW to wear the baggy green. In the 1970s when WA were leading the pack we had plenty of WA players in the Aussie team, and we've seen a plethora of Qld players make the team over the past decade.

I don't think for one minute it was between Tait and Clark for a World Cup spot. They need Tait's pace to apply pressure in powerplay situations and to finish off. I believe it was between Clark and McGrath. I would have picked Clark.

Oh Dear  AH i have a lot of time for your comments on this cricket forum but to suggest Clark getting selected ahead of the most successful fast bowler who has ever lived is just ludicrious. Glen McGrath picks himself. Even if Pige isn't at his peak he has given Australian cricket more than cricket can ever give him and he deserves his finale in the West Indies. Don't be surprised to see a star performance from Glenn i the Caribbean.

That is precisely the problem. He actually DID pick himself by announcing to the world he would retire after the World Cup. This pretty much placed pressure on the selectors to pick him, otherwise they would appear to be a heartless group of men. They were painted into a corner.

My concerns about McGrath are his fielding and batting. He contributes very little in these areas and if his bowling is slightly off for any reason he is a problem. Other bowlers can save a bit of face with excellent fielding or making a few runs late in the innings.

If you are relying on your number 11 to make runs then you shouldn't bother about winning games. Apart from the one mishap the other night McGrath is an excellent outfielder who has a very safe pair of hands and a strong throwing arm. You say "if his bowling is slightly off for any reason he is a problem". Same goes for any of the other specialist bowlers. They are not there to bat and just because Glen dropped one catch does not make him a liability in the field. If the bowlers have to bat the batsmen haven't done their job anyway. Apart from all that i'd back McGrath to have less games where his bowling is "slightly off" that anyone else.

Not sure if this is the correct tread but im getting a little sick of ch. 7's sunrise show constantly going on about shaun tait being selected before "their" man stuart clark!!! FFS what has it got to do with them just because he appears on your show doesnt mean he should get selected for th WC. Notice this morning in the news bar along the bottom of the screen it said that tait bowls 8 wides and claims 4 wickets against qld... since when has shuan taits bowling figures been head line news? FFS p!ss off and cool the globe or something...end of rant.

You hit the nail on the head there AG.

Clark was always going to be straight into the team when McGrath goes. He'll get his chance to prove himself in the ODI arena, just like he has done in Tests.

Take away Shaun Tait's wides & no ball yesterday and he took 4/23.

You should hear SEN bleating over Cameron White. It's pathetic. There are far too many media people commenting on cricket who know stuff all about the game and yet talk as though their opinions should be taken seriously.

It doesn't matter how many people think White is a better batsman or fieldsman than Hogg, the facts are they wanted a genuine spin bowler in the squad, therefore Hogg goes, White stays home. It doesn't matter who thinks Clark is a better bowler than Tait, the facts are they need a bowler with sufficient pace to apply pressure in power plays and to finish off. Therefore, Tait goes, Clark stays home.

I really wish people would think things through before gobbing off with home town biases. It is nigh impossible finding anyone within the media these days with a capacity for intelligible balanced argument instead of pushing their own agendas.
