if only he put 1 or 2 of his one day innings into the shield he'd still be there. Mabee he shouldve traded them

Im not thrilled even though he deserves it.

Ferg has been in pretty good form since having a chat with Timmy Nielsen i think it was. It's about time Elliott is gone but a little late.

I cant believe the lack of respect given to Elliott over his perforance in the one day cup. If it were Cosgrove or Lehmann thered be white fluid all over the computer screen.

Credit where its due.

Turn a couple of close results around and sa would have made the final. Gillespie dropped catch at the WACA. Il accept that we pulled off great wins v nsw in syd and QLD in Adel but we wernt far off.

Fair call. He has been very very poor in the longer version of the game though and is lucky to have kept his spot for as long as he has. Just ask Greg Blewett.

why not just bat him down the order in the Pura Cup?
I think you'd find he may adapt a bit better & make some runs- worth a try

Same could be said of Blewett. Granted there were other reasons why Blewett is no longer around but still.......

Good point re: batting Elliot down the order. He clearly can still play just needs a bit of confidence in the longer version.

Good to get a South Aussie back in the side.
If we're going to get pumped again - it might as well be South Aussies that get pumped!

Elliott has received plenty of praise on here for his performances in the one dayers but Shield games are completely different, he has been terrible since crossing the border and should have been dropped ages ago.

Reading in todays paper, he has another year to go on his contract.

When I saw "Elliott Out!" posted at 11:32 am,I thought,"We aren't playing today, are we? If so,how did he last this long?"

KOD MAL

I have predicted 5 players in the 2006/2007 cricket year to get the KOD

GILES who was a very ordinary non performer
ANDERSON who is a useless TEST bowler[terrific o/d bowler]
MARTYN who just got too old, but a great player
ASTLE too many failures in the last year, but was a good player
and
ELLIOTT

May I now say even though I suggested MARTYN was past it
and persecuted ELLIOTT I have to admit its sad when it happens.

He has had a career many would love to have had.
199 in a Test match
2nd highest runs in a season in over 100 years of interstate cricket[1386?approx]
Captain of Victoria
A brilliant career as a batsman for Victoria
An acceptable career for Australia
Winner of the 2006/2007 best player award in the Ford Cup

A gifted driver of the full ball, a wonderful player of his legs and until recently a
glorious offside player.
Ability was not his downfall, old age and facing that brand new Kookaburra in p/cup
was his demise.
The selectors as PUNK quite rightly posted could have tried him in the middle order
a while ago to resserect his now defunct p/cup career.

Matthew Elliott a fine career, would love him to bounce back next year as a middle orer
batsman and finish a career with the dignity that was eroded in the last 2 years of p/cup.
As a o/d player a player of imperious quality.

2 more points
That collision with Mark Waugh and that knee injury stopped his potential of being
a star test opener.
and
He is a re-incarnation of Bill LAWRY, tall, left handed and a brilliant player.
