Will Andrew Symonds 3 wickets be enough for the selectors to give him another go in the next test

The selectors have to back him for the rest of the series (only 1 test anyway). That aside, he'll be suited to the Sydney wicket. Interesting to hear the selectors have stated that he's in the side for his batting, and not his "allround" status. One would think that he'd have to perform with the bat, to keep his spot past Sydney.

72 of 54 balls, including six 6s.

This bloke sure knows how to pull it out of the fire.

First at the World Cup, now in the Boxing Day test.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he do the same in the One Day site (World cup) in that he's pulled out a big game probably on his last chance?

At stumps last night I didn't think it would be enough, but after making 70 odd and taking 2 more wickets, I think he's safe for at least one more.
If he does stay in the side I hope he makes the most of it and succeeds with the bat and ball.
It's been a long time since Australia had a genuine all roander, let alone one that can bowl medium pace, or off spinners.

im a huge fan of andy symonds.... possibly the BEST fielder in the country ... yes he has failed with bat in recent times but once he feels safe in the side does he put out... very similiar to the world cup in south africa......

but how was andre nel given lip service to andy symonds in one over and then symonds smacks him for six the next .. symonds just went past him and said nice ball mate...lol

must say symonds got many oppurtunities be4 the world cup and every one said that his selection was a joke well hasnt history proven as wrong well some off us....

go symonds....

but us some may say " one swallow doesnt make a girlfriend""

All class ding some of your jokes may yet take off. Reminds me of another joke from the 'old bastard' textbook.

Now he has to back it up in Sydney with a 50 and/or a 100 +.

He's not in the position to be scoring 100's, he's too far down the order to be expected to... 50 is a more reasonable target, given his position & style (read: longevity at the crease), but he'd also need to come on a take 1 or 2 wickets with the ball. If an allrounder is expected to take 5 fors & score tons. then the team is struggling anyway...

I think that players of Symond's class need to be cut a bit of slack as his best is better than just about anyone else's.

agreed, i think that he offers so much as a complete package* that its worth persisting with the bloke

can bat
can bowl offies
can bowl medium pace
can field brilliantly

i'm sure he could probably keep too, so lets start focussing on gilly making some runs
