Only 4 players over thirty is not bad, when you look at the Aussie side in the last couple of years.

Can't believe Cosgrove is only 22... seems like he's been in the news for years.

In lots of ways he's been unfairly judged due to the fact we haven't had a decent batsman in between him and Blewett/Lehmann. He has had to carry the batting quite a bit for someone so young. Hopefully that group of batsman about his age can improve and carry the Redbacks into the post-Lehmann era. And hopefully it won't be another 12 years before the next talented batch come through.

And you would know??
well you just have to see the way the guy fields, in last years one dayer in feb against tassie he couldnt move 5m to take a catch.
plus if he is batting he loses concentration when he gets hungry.
he must have shares in KFC

Where did i say he wasnt doing anything to rectify it? dont put words in my mouth. All i was implying was that he looks more like a 45yo Country Bgrade cricketer than a 22yo athelete... If you dont agree with that you thats fine your call.

PITB welcome to the SAFOOTY site
Im each way on the Cossie critics
Cossie needs to make a conscientious decision
Does he become a zero tolerant professional sportsman ?
Or does he be a norMAL 22 year old young man, drinking eating rooting all night etc.. ?
Thats his decision, a hard decision, everyone needs to live thier lives
You are only young once
MT79 is a classic example, had the world at his feet as a cricketer
He went the way of youthful exhuberance and enjoys life but missed
out on a potentially excellent cricket career
My opinion, Cossie needs to improve his image by toning up
Ive never believed being rotund is an excuse for bad batting form,
but it is magnified when a overweight batsman is not performing

mal's right
Cossie needs to decide if he really wants to play at the highest level or not. If he does he needs to get in shape and fast. We are not talking about a guy who is out of shape for an athlete he is out of shape for any person. He is quite clearly overweight and has been for some time. He has had numerous warnings and failed to rectify the problem.
It is entirely up to him. I won't judge him whatever he does but the simple fact is that if he wants to play high level sport he needs to get a lot fitter. Hopefully he is working hard right now and doing just that but if he isn't then that's up to him. The results will show one way or the other.

In the past a bit of beef hasn't held back some champions .... Sir Ian, Merv, Booney
But these days, rightly or wrongly, influential people in high places seem to view extra weight as a sign of a guy who's not committed 100% and will pick him AFTER other options explored .... some say that happened to Lehmann (unfairly if that's true)
So it seems Cossie has to face up to the cricket world as it is in 2007 rather than what it was in 1987 and get himself as fit as possible if he wants to go to the next level.
He is only 22 ... maybe he'll front up to the next season as a lean-mean-fighting-machine and prove us all wrong

Agreed with last 3 posters - unfortunately, perception is everything...
Cossie is indeed a 'different' shape and will always be thus, but this winter at the CA he needs to be 'seen' to be doing everything right and i am sure that will hold him in good stead.
He has no peer in the country for his age...lets hope he gets a chance to show the rest of Australia/World, what he is capable of.
Cosgrove

I think if you can still play at that level while carrying that wieght it makes you twice the athlete.
It must be hard to score a ton carrying that weight between the wickets.
Leave him be, there are worse performers than him in the SA squad, he just needs some decent backup.
Cosgrove = Legend
Cosgrove achieiving with that physique = legendary

Agree with your post hondo but none of those guys you named were ever carrying as much excess as Cossie has at times.
Well not when they were playing
