I was over in Melbourne last week and listening to SEN and they were talking about the queue for keepers to play for Australia. Haddin, Crosswaite and Hartley were spoken about but I was surprised there was no mention of Manou.
Hopefully he can reel off a ton tomorrow so he can get some recognition as they don't appear to recognise the glove work.

Looks like Manou won't be doing that, out early this morning without adding to his score. There is no doubt that Manou is the best gloveman in Australia along with Haddin.
Unfortunately for him and other keepers right around the world, Gilchrist has set the bar with regards to keeper's batting and no doubt the Australian selectors will be keeping their eyes out for someone to fill the massive batting gap that Gilly will leave when he eventually goes.

I don't get all the buzz around Hartley. Is it because he is from Qld ha ha. A lot of keepers for Australia have been bannana benders. Haddin next in line and deservedly so.

Brad Haddin obviously is the selectors next choice - but Chock has worked pretty hard on his batting and is clearly the next cab of the rank

Hartley and Crosswaite - who are they and what have they done - have they captained their state side and will they ever - dont think so

SA needs to start winning consistently or they will be consistently overlooked when it comes to National selection. FWIW, I'd have Manou ahead of the other two on experience alone.

After watching Manou in shield games on the box in McDonalds Cup matches and Hartely this year on the box and at the Institute challenge in Darwin in 2002, IMHO Hartely wil wear the Baggy green after Haddin but I wouldn't even be surprised if he jumps the cue depending on how long Gilchrist plays on for...

Hartely is a gun when it comes to soft hands and staying low, - THE key to being a good 'keeper, If you doubt me get hold of a skills analysis computer program such as SiliconCoach, KappaCoach, Dartfish (nine tracker) or Swinger and do a split screen, and watch Healy and Gilchrist when the ball Pitches Healy is always coming up that fraction after Gilchrist does, which means he is able to move better and is always coming up with the ball. IMHO Haretly does those better than any keeper going around shield level at the minute but Haddin has the runs on the board so at the minute he is the 2nd choice

The other thing about Hartely is he is mentally strong and and can think through an innings batting (He got the QAS home against us (NT) coming in at #10 at 8/90 chasing 170odd. He was batting at 10 instead of 4 because they didn't rate us and he was batting with #8). The ability of Healy to remain calm, unflustered and think was what got him the gig in '88 when Chappell spoke to him as Queensland were imploding at Tasmania on their way to losing another shield!!

My sources tell me he is rated as one of the best keepers to come out of the Academy since Berry certainly better than Manou was at the same time, also his first class average is 35 compared to Manou's 20.

Don't get me wrong Manou is a solid keeper, where as Hartely is very solid. So that is why Hartely will wear the baggy green who knows he could be #400 (I doubt it will be that soon though......)

Hartly would probably be the go, Just seems to be around at the right time. Gilcrest wont be moving just yet and we the time comes perhaps Hartly will be the man.

Inflated average 12 matches for hartley @ 18 innings and 3 not outs - Manou @ 60 matches 101 innings with 9 not outs.

See what the test of time says hey

if manou can have a very solid year keeping to a varied attack he must come into contention. cullen spins from the off, bailey from the leg, tait outright pace and then three different medium pacers. i think he has the goods but could he bat at seven ?
