A decision like this could end a mans career[STRAUSS has never recovered]

Double standards in this series
PIETERSON was given out caught behind last test, was nearly off the ground
when re called after a 3rd umpire intrusion as replays showed the ball was short of the keeper

The Kartik decision was a shocker. Strange though at the time the fielding side was convinced and the batsman didn't seem too upset by the decision. When i saw it in real time at first i didn't think it was out and was surprised that the reaction all round seemed to be that it was obvious. Replays proved me right. No deflection, no noise. Don't see what either the bowler, fielders or umpire saw or heard.

Only watched the first session last night and that umpy made one very good not out call off the bouncy bowling of Tremlett. A referral system is not the worst idea I've heard of in Test Cricket.

Hope India makes a huge score and beats the Poms like a drum.

yeah i only watched the first session too and it was quite enjoyable cricket.

i would also back a referal system but on the proviso that all fielding teams completet their 90 overs per day by the scheduled finishing time or lose 10 runs per over not bowled, this will give better quality all round- better decisions and more cricket

MAte it isn't hard to criticise the current crop of international 'keepers their is a paucity of good keepers at the international level ATM. For that we have to thank our own Adam Gilchrist who has changed cricket (in my own biased opinion) for the worse as the art of glovemanship has been diminished in the eyes of selectors as they search for a person who can "handle" a pair of gloves but more importantly can bat too.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Adam Gilchrist is not a 'keeper of the ilk of Tallon, Healy, Marsh and Oldfield.

PANESAR is the only very good bowler, the rest would struggle to get a bowl for South Australia

Imagine What Sort of Score the Aussies Would have posted on that pitch against that attack? 8 - 900?????
Certainly Have been worse England Attacks than that, Probably all the ones From about 1985 - 2000.
Very Good pitch, on a Very Quick scoring Ground against a Very Determined and hard to get out Batting side which India are on Flat Pitches made the Poms task all the more Difficult.
Think i Heard the Commentators mumble something about a Record for the Most 50+ Partnerships in a Test Inngs.
NO Excuses for the Poms, They Had India on toast in the 1st Test and stuffed around to allow a Draw and then were simply outplayed in 2nd test.
Injuries to Key players, Losing important tosses, bad umpiring decisions are No excuse for this Eng Debacle in this Series as The AUSSIES have shown over the Last 20 years, that if your good enough, you can overcome those Barriers.

A little harsh on Tremlett there I reckon mally. He seems to be a bit raw but the attack does seem to be understrength at the moment with no Hoggard, Harmison and Flintoff. The Indians caned our attack too when our guns were out in 2003/04. Tremlett looks handy to me, gets good bounce and appears to be in the Stuart Clark mould. The Oval deck was a batsman's dream and Sidebottom got hurt. Tremlett was absolutely knackered yesterday.

On face value this is a very ordinary English attack
Tremelett/Sidebottom may develop into good test bowlers , but not right now
Jimmy Anderson is a star o/d bowler but is below par at test level
Collingwood is not a test bowler
KP is the worst off spinner in world cricket
Monty the only genuine test bowler in the line up but bowling to batsman who cum when facing spin
John Snow and Bob Willis might have bowled better !

As for India they are frontrunners
as JJ said flat track superstars but as soon as a bowler gets the ball above the hip
they go missing

India are the South Adelaide/Fremantle of cricket
All the ability but generally wasted

Can't argue with that at all. I've only seen a bit of Marsh and haven't seen any of Tallon or Oldfield but Healy is easily the best gloveman i've seen play. Gilchrist is not great with the gloves but to his credit he would admit this and he does work very hard on it. He is of enormous value to the side though but the danger is that like other countries are doing in when Gilly goes trying to replace him with a batsman who can keep rather than get the best keeper available. There won't be another Gilchrist for a long long time if ever and when he retires Australia really need to fill the keeping spot with the best gloveman regardless of his batting abilities.

Gilchrists batting is miles ahead of what was expected from a wicketkeeper. So much so, he has pretty much redefined the wicketkeeping spot in the team. And that's why you will see people select him in an 'all time team', simply because of his batting. Whatever deficiencies he has in his keeping ability, he more than makes up for it with the bat.

Exactly Spelly. I'd have Gilly in my team ahead of Healy and Marsh any day of the week. Someone who is a good glovesman but a dud batsman is useless in the team nowadays. While Gilly would admit he isn't the greatest glovesman in the game, he is more than adequate in that department. He has done some absolutely freakish things behind the stumps in his career.

If you want to look at their glovework alone, then Darren Berry is the best keeper Ive ever seen. Exceptionately quick hands and feet.
