Mags...sorry but I think there might be more than one herd...

This is from the BBC web site

Swiss bison boost Russian herds
Efforts to restore the large herds of bison which once roamed Russian forests have received a boost with the arrival of seven animals from Switzerland.

After a month in quarantine the bison will join the small wild herds dotted around Russia.

The ultimate goal is to build up herds of up to 500 beasts.

The World Wildlife Fund, which has organised the project, says Russia, with its vast uncultivated spaces, is an ideal location to make the bison's survival a realistic possibility.

The bison - a close relative of the American buffalo - came close to extinction in the 20th century, with only 50 animals left in zoos.
