And, part two of the WSC quiz, my checking (but I'm not as certain here) is that four guys across the three teams are no longer with us. Who are they? (and I will stand corrected  if there is actually five or more)

Malcolm Marshall

marshall didn't play WSC. The great man made his Test debut while the WSC greats were away in Australia in the second summer in 78-79, and the Windies happily discovered a quick as good and as scary as any to have played.

Andy Roberts has died hasn't he? Around the same time as Marshall.

BTW - Rog, which of Haigh's books were you reading? I've got three of his, including his latest.
Definitely my favourite cricket writer. His biographyb of Jack Iverson is wonderful.

Hookes and Woolmer leaves two others as those no longer with us. The reunion part in 1997-98, which I was lucky enough to get to, was maybe the most money I've ever seen spent by a party host in one night (Kerry Packer). He flew in every single player and partner from wherever they were in the world, as well as inviting all the current Australian team and cricket writers, both of the time, and the 1970s. Massive, massive party.

Roberts still with us, as is Watson. As for Gideon, agree that he is the best Aussie cricket writer, with daylight placed second and third. Have all of his books. His Warwick Armstrong book is an epic of research, Iverson a tremendous book, WSC book, etc etc. Every time I see his name on a book, buy it without a thought and look forward to usually having it read within a few days. Does a great job every time.

I'd love to get a hold of that Armstrong book.
It'd be good to learn a little bit more about the man than his big pants and disdain for the Poms.
