Q48 Bet the ancient Greeks don't count do they...I think they had steam driven stuff but mostly as a party trick rather than anything useful.

i see your point that scheele it seems didnt reveal his theory or findings until much later

Oxygen was discovered for the first time by a Swedish Chemist, Carl Wilhelm Scheele, in 1772. Joseph Priestly, an English chemist, independently, discovered oxygen in 1774 and published his findings the same year, three years before Scheele published.

47Just guessing - 1497 was around Columbus time, so was it him?? If not him, then de Gama was around that period too I think - but no idea where he sailed!!! (not covered in Bryson's book!!!)
