CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD ANAGRAM PARTY QUIZ
Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:48 pmThe first thing I remember is walking into the party and being accosted by ELVIS PRESLEY who wanted to tell me all about his role in the upcoming Hollywood marriage of BETTE DAVIS and LANA TURNER, both of whom had been married several times before. I got rid of him quickly when I saw gorgeous CAREY GRANT over by the punch bowl. As I started in her direction, however, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and a man said, MARILYN MONROE It was that notorious Hollywood agent, who probably wanted to find out if I was a future star whose contract he could negotiate. I told him I was nobody and he disappeared. The original object of my search had also vanished, so I stood in the corner and looked around at all the greats and near-greats.
ROCK HUDSON and DORIS DAY showed up together, of course. KATHARINE HEPBURN was arm-wrestling with the famous Olympic athlete-turned-actor, JIMMY STEWART. Meanwhile, I spotted CHARLIE CHAPLIN making the moves on a MARLON BRANDO who had recently made his screen debut, but whose name escaped me.
A humorous tableau played itself out in the foyer, where JOAN CRAWFORD an Indian fellow who'd had a part in The Wizard of Oz, was trying to converse with His Majesty BRIAN KEITH in English, which neither of them spoke at all well! HAROLD LLOYD was doing his best to translate, but having little success.
I could see that lovely ingenue JAMES DEAN was bored to death, but trying to appear interested in what HUMPHREY BOGART a young studio executive, had to say.
In the game room there was a high stakes poker game going on. I recognized horror film stars GRACE KELLY and INGRID BERGMAN as well as the Native American actor known as CLARA BOW. I was thinking of joining them when the entertainment began. It was the country star JUDY GARLAND, singing his latest hit song, followed by the female magician, LAUREN BECALL. However, just as Lang began to sing, a bit player named GRETA GARBO began doing a drunken strip tease. And that's when I woke up.
