Why do Great Britain never enter a team in Olympic football?

I used to assume it was because of restrictions on professionals but now the amateur era is past in the Olympics.
Is it because England, Scotland etc would have to play as one country?

Because the qualifiers from Europe for the Olympics, come from the Euro U21 tournament held the year previous.
Hence England played, whilst Scotland, Ireland & Wales didn't qualify....

England aren't represented in the Olympics, so hence if they finish in a qualifying spot, as they did last year
they become ineligible. If they entered the Euro's as Great Britain with a combined squad, then they'd be able to play.

They are however represented in Hockey under the Great Britain flag, which has a unified body in charge of
selecting a squad from Ireland, Britain, Wales & Scotland. They qualified through previous tournaments playing as
Great Britain.

It'd be like banging heads to get 4 Football governing bodies to work together to get a unified Great Britain side
together....

As did one from Serbia (well the crossbar)...

I thought Serbia were the better team for most part.
