100 metre sprint

Should be a ripper, I have some cash on the World Record Holder Bolt (got on at $3.25) but Gay and Powell are right in this.
Noone else a chance.

Gay should 'bolt' it in if he competes. I know he is nursing a slight hamstring strain at the moment and may withdraw to concentrate on his pet event the 200m but he has shown that he has the temprement to win major championship events as he did at last years worlds when he won the sprint double.
Not sure if Bolt is planning on contesting the 100m at this stage. His pet event is the 400m and again he may withdraw to concentrate on this.
Powell seems to suffer from the yips at big meetings. His top 5 fastest times have been in low key golden league events. I'm pretty sure he has failed to break 9.85 in any major championship final. Powell seems to throw his race plan out the window in major championship finals which results in him tightening up mid race and when he gets a hint of pressure from another runner he will almost 'give up' and concede.

Ted,

good post; but

1) A week or two ago at the US Trials Tyson Gay cramped in his hammy in the 200m final and hence has not qualified to run in the 200m

2) Usain Bolts pet event doesnt seem to be the 400m, i think he is running the 100m and 200m at Beijing. In fact Bolts 400m best is 45.28, a whopping 2 sec off the world record and about 1.8 sec slower than Jeremy Wariner. My tip is Wariner may give the great Michael Johnsons 400m world record a good shake.

This will be a cracker of a race if all the favourites are fit. If the conditions are right whoever wins will probably need to break the world record to do so.
