Chinese Government censorship

Postby Mr66 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 9:57 pm

The barbarians that run this country have gone back on a promise not to censor the internet.
As little as two weeks ago Jacques Rogge was saying that the Chinese government was not going to censor any foreign journalist covering the games.
And an American syncronised swimmer, who is now with the media, has been denied entry because of her involvment with the 'Free Darfur' movement
Now that we have gone past the point of no return re. postponing or rescheduling the games, the Commie filth feel that they can now get away with anything.
And probably will..
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Not a good thing, but probably to be expected with the Chinese government.

Perhaps the communist regime is worried that if the situation gets resolved in Darfur it might cause the world to focus on the same issues that are currently occuring in China to anyone who opposes the beliefs of the Communist party?

The more I look at it the more it appears that the 2008 games is simply 1936 all over again....

I agree with the guy writing to The Age here in Melbourne.
The right thing to do is cancel the Olympics for this year now as a lesson to other political manipulators.
That would at least help preserve the struggling credibility of the Olympic movement.

The ramifications of doing that to China would be staggering.
Too staggering to contemplate.
I think they would see that as an act of aggression that could set a chain reaction of monolithic proportions.

We don't have to look back as far as 1936 either, as host nations the Russians and US have used the Games for their own political machinations in the past.
The Olympics has never been above ignoring political issues and never will be.

The (modern) Olympic games were created as a political tool, nothing has or ever will change.

I agree it is not going to happen, and that the modern Olympics have always been political.
That's one of the reasons I'm not very interested in them.

I'm interested in politics, I just don't like it getting involved in sport, or sport and the like bowing down to politics.
My interest in politics is derived of necessity from my interest in individual freedom and autonomy.

There are also some reports that the German Team in the Olympic Village cannot get German newspapers, as the Chinese officials want them censored. The report was in a German newspaper so not sure how accurate this is.

...and yet last night on the news here they were thanking the Chinese authorities for now allowing access to some websites they'd previously blocked. Although they did point out it still falls short of the full access that was promised...(did anyone seriously think that 'full access' would happen  :? )

There's a fresh report out yesterday about an unregistered Catholic Minister who has been relocated from Beijing to prevent him from speaking to media about his day to day supression.

In china, if you are a religious leader, or want to undertake religious practices of any kind, you must be registered with the government, presumably so they can censor your impact if you gain a following. This Minister is not registered as he does not share the views of the Commy leaders.

Anyway, the BBC and other British press got wind of this bloke's ordeal and tracked him down to some city outside Beijing and went to interview him. Once again, the Chinese police got wind of this and arrested him before he could be interviewed by the media. There was vision of media having a shouted conversation accross a gated police courtyard to the minister who was able to reply through an open window. 15 seconds later and police come and forcefully take him out of sight. One can only imagine what has happened to him since.

This makes me sick.

Yes, just like Germany in 1936 all over again, last time it was Jewish people this time its Chinese people, yet the world just could not care less about how they are being mistreated. :(

It makes you grateful that we live in a country that doesn't tolerate censorship.

It happens for the same reason the IOC and everyone else looks the other way while China censors the Internet.
In China it's Politics and the Army.
In the west it's Money and Greed.
Same outcome - except in China we couldn't comment on it.
