got to feel for Cancellara ... a momentary lack of concentration and his Olympics may be over.

Not sure anyone should be penalised twice, but not ideal that a previous drug cheat in Vinokourov wins gold.

Good to see the Poms stuff it up badly.

Who would have predicted no medal for Cancellara, Cavendish or Greipel?

Even if I had some weird feeling Gossy would turn it on, but for Cavendish not to win gold is good enough!

Why hasn't another rider been called up to replace Evans? FFS, the Equestrian team had to go to their second reserve - ie third choice - horse and rider, with quarantine to think about pre-Olympics.

They have reserve riders, as far as I know his replacement has not been named yet though

It leaves only Australia's triple world time trial champion Michael Rogers to compete, with no replacement being considered.

The AOC said in a statement that Evans was not ready to tackle another gruelling race after his Tour de France disappointments and Sunday's race.

"Cycling has advised he will not be replaced with another athlete in that event."

hindsight is a wonderful thing but perhaps Cadel shouldn't have come to London in the first place?

The rider for the time trial must come from the road race team IIRC. Means O'Grady, Goss or Gerrans would need to ride and none of them will get near it. I doubt they are feeling so strong as to just ride without hope of winning with the road race and TDF still telling on the legs.

Porte would have been a good rider, but I doubt he would have been a better option than Cadel for the road race and time trial and the switch would have had to be made before the road race.

I guess Cadel doesn't feel better on Swisse. Not a great endorsement of his sponsors product. ;)
