Mens road race underway, Simon Gerrans is in my opinion the best chance for Australia to win gold. Would be very surprised if it goes to a sprint finish and Goss could overcome Cavendish and/or Sagan.

WTF..why do people bring dogs to bike races

Is this a team event? i.e. whoever wins, all from that country get a gold medal?

No, individual event although team mates very much ride for each other. This will be shown with the Poms leading out Cavendish for a sprint finish.

Aussies with O'Grady in the break away keep the pace up, the Poms are now at the front of the chase

That Aussie that went alone to chase seems to have spent his petrol tickets in vain, I guess...

I hope I'm not the only dumb person who has no idea how this road race thing works. Teams, tactics duh. Why not just get on yer bike and try and beat everyone else to the finish line? Or does that sound silly?

At least there are no team radios in this event :D

It's a bit like a relay, except the spoils all go to the person who does the final leg to the finish. Funny how in swimming relays, every swimmer during heats and finals gets a medal even if they dont swim in the final, yet this doesn't apply for road cycling. It might do so for track cycling (team pursuit) though?

It's an individual sport played in a team environment...

Not every person from the country of the winner gets a medal in the marathon etc, even if they work together during the race by peacemaking etc..

With 42 km to race, this is set up for Cavendish to claim a sprint finish.
