Going better then the Poms!

Im over us saying we are doing better than the poms, just to try make us feel better about spudding it up big time.

Once they over take us on the medal tally, im sure we will start saying we are going better than the Kiwis.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Excuses thread

Postby RustyCage » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:03 pm

It's mainly our shitty media who are coming up with all the excuses, or making a big deal out of a three second soundbite from a post event interview.

I was worried about how Ch 9 would cover the Olympics given I thought they really botched the hosting gig for the Melbourne Comm Games. 98.5% over their coverage was Aussie domination forgetting they were the host broadcaster and there were plenty of visiting people in the country to follow their athletes.

Classic moment was when at the closing ceremony when the athelete of the games was announced. It was an Indian Shooter who has smashed some comm games records for mutiple gold medals but the hosts had now idea who he was.

It was a bit like a host inviting you over for dinner and spending the whole night talking about themselves.

That said the Olympics is such a bigger event and its almost impossible for one channel to keep pace of all the aussies let alone other major stories.

Got no problem with arrogance. To be great you need a certain degree of arrogance - it's all part of the ambition and confidence. It's palatable if you manage to be 'humble in victory and gracious in defeat'.

Hate excuses though and hate 'em even more when they're made before you've even bloody competed!

We can add Stephanie Rice's shoulder injury to the excuses. 5 minutes on the channel 9 couch this morning to get her message out there.

Hackett post-race on Magnussen:

"If he swam as fast as he did at the trials... If he... if..."

If, but, maybe. Should, could, woulda. And if my aunty had balls she'd be my uncle.

Come to think of, in my family, that's not far from the truth...

Wouldn't it be great to hear someone say nothing went wrong and they were beaten by a better person on the day... Even if there are genuine excuses there is no need to make them public... being Gracious in defeat - we wouldn't even win a silver

If he had have stretched his fingers out to the wall he would have won gold. Using his palm cost him

Wut? He clearly touches the pad with his fingers first, after which the wrist bends and the palm then takes the impact. The timer is stopped at impact of the fingertips.

If you want to be picky, it's obvious he had to overstretch on his second last stroke and then overstretch on his final stroke, whereas the American's second last stroke was a little shorter.
