Italy Vs France Final

Postby Maddogmike » Thu Jul 06, 2006 9:27 am

1st half foul in the box on Thierry Henry, allowed Zidane to convert the resultant penalty. The French then defended the rest of the game in a boring 2nd half, whilst the Portugese flung themselves on the ground more often than a 2 yr old child throwing a tantrum!

Italy Vs France Sunday night Germany time (early morn monday Aust time)

France havent really done anything majorly wrong. It was the Portugese and Italians that took the game into disrepute.

Zidane will be looking to go out on a high after coming out of international retirement especially for the world cup, Im backing 0-0 at full time, but could go either way after.

Im running 4th out of about 40 people in a tipping comp so have gone for 2 upsets.
France 1-0 and Portugal to pull off a shock win against Germany.

Also they take a dive and roll around like they're really injured, then they score a goal and the team does a stacks on the milne on the player and he's all fine when they get off.

If he didn't do that, the result of the shoot out might be a bit different.

Possibly, but I reakon Trezeguet would have been brought on and taken a shot anyway ... Would love to know what Materazzi said/did for Zidane to get into him ... Was the highlight of the final for mine! :D

I still can't believe Zizou did that, a terrible way to end a fantastic career, only minutes earlier he almost headed France into the lead as well.

Materazzi does have a bit of a reputation in world soccer but Zidane clearly let himself get sucked in. The penalty goal of Zidanes was one of the most bizarre penalties I've ever seen. I'm sure he meant to do what he did (just a bit lower than the crossbar though) but looked like the equivalent of a golfer with the yips stroking a two foot putt.

The chipped penalty was on purpose, it was a little lucky in the end but he knew what he was doing.

Pretty rare players take penalties like that, especially in a World Cup final.

I think Peter Crouch tried that in a friendly before the world cup and put it into the crowd.

According to the BBC, Materazzi is alleged to have said: “I wish an ugly death to you and all your family. Go **** yourself.”

The Sun newspapers believes Materazzi’s insult was aimed at Zidane’s mother Milika, who is suffering with illness.

Their Italian lip-reader believes that the stopper called the No 10 a “son of a terrorist whore” before he was sent crashing to the ground by Zidane’s attack.
