Euros 2016

Postby Wedgie » Tue May 17, 2016 8:58 am

Less than a month to go.
Not sure if I want England to go deep in the tourney with so many Spurs players or if I want them to get knocked put early so there would be more chance of the Spurs National players being in Melbourne in July. Ditto for Belgium!
Looking forward to England v Wales ie Kane v Bale.

France $4
Germany $4.5
Spain $6
England $9
Belgium $11

Belgium look decent value - are $6 to make the final too

Yep. whilst I think the winner comes from the top 3, Belgium does look to represent the best value from that lot. Amazing that zee Germans rarely seem to start the Euro's or WC on the top line of betting.

2 years ago Kane and Vardy were on Leicesters bench playing in the championship. This morning they both scored and starred for England in a win. How quickly things can change.

Good effort by those two.
The current English side would be one of the worst ever on paper, really can't see them going anywhere at the Euro's

Edited for accuracy.
Congrats to Eric Dier for being the first Tottenham player to score for the Socceroos.

Last time we beat them 3-1 over there, shows how much the Socceroos have gone backwards since the A League came in.

Or it could show how much England have improved since. This is not a loaded question but of the 11 + that played, how many have played in the A League in say the last 3 years as against how many play in Eurpoe ?

You watch the game? Thought the Socceroos more than held their own. Was only really the finishing of rashford that separated the teams

Thought our mids were OK and held their own, lack of a genuine number 9 hurts us. That was probably the worst English side I can remember, they are going nowhere fast, they will be mauled in the Euro's

You watch the game when we won 3-1 or follow soccer here up to ten years ago?
The NSL produced so many more quality Socceroos than the A League does with Central Coast being an exception to the rule producing Rogic, Ryan and Jedinak.
Tell me for example how many quality Socceroos Adelaide United have produced?
Compare that to Adelaide City.

Hence why the Socceroos were better 10 years ago. I still maintain anyone playing A-League currently shouldn't be considered for the National side.
The best thing for our up and coming guns is to get them over to Europe in a decent league.

The NSL was a far better comp than the A-League currently is

Who is arguing they were better now than 10 years ago? I thought that was a given.

I don't put it down to the relative strengths of the nsl or a league though, I just think the stars aligned and we had a ton of our best ever players in the same team

You believe in stars aligning, I believe in facts from a knowledge of having watched soccer in this country since the mid 70s. Each to their own.

I'm still unsure as to who you think you are arguing against. All I said was I thought we held our own but our finishing wasn't great. You are agreeing with me and yet still trying to find a way to argue?
