I like ya thinking son(but u forgot brighton, surely div 1),but i think all sides in div 1 should have to fill all junior grades and a must is for the juniors to play before the seniors as now in the sfl or i think we wil be no different from the amateur leagues and there will be small crowds every week.

We'll let the bombers fly up, dropping McLaren Vale, Glenunga from the 2's, leaving 12 in the 3's

1 or 2 team relegation / promotion each season?

Juniors would be an issue. Hard to get the city clubs to commit to saturday juniors with plenty of their stock involved with colleges. Perhaps a North | South junior league to keep the parents happy?

well i am not prepared to sit on this any longer.
Edwardstown are now in discussion with the SFL to be part of it in 2009
If the league can agree to some concessions for there first couple of years (juniors building slowly and a couple of others) it is all systems go.

Perhaps the league can harden up and relaise that it is the clubs that nuture and teach the kids and go all out to promote club over the airy fairy school comp. I mean what do they play for? The old school tie and cup of tea after the game or maybe a jolly hot toddy. If clubs don't want to commit the full way don't ask them accross. Work hard to make our league successful and by this we need all clubs to commit to full teams. Surely a club like Edwardstown would be able to field teams on Saturday, not all the kids in their patch go to college.

Firstly, colleges can force students to play in the saturday college league.

Secondly, demographics - Just take a look at all the high schools that have closed in the inner suburbs over the last 15 years; Marion, Vermont, Glengowrie; that's a good 2000 kids. Twenty years ago it didn't matter that you had four or five clubs within a five minute radius, but it sure does now! No sunday SAAFL comp = no juniors for half of the clubs; No Sunday SFL comp = No edwardstown, it is as simple as that.

What are the players reaction EFC? Expect to lose a few? Would Golding stay as coach?

i think the playing group they have now are warming to the idea. It isnt much fun playing in front of two cats and a dog. I know going into the sfl wont mean they will instantly pick up support but with juniors beforehand you will have a bit more of a chance at a crowd and the good support of the SFL teams far outweigh the numbers they are playing in front of now.

Golding was is a very good coach and a great player and i personally hope he stays on doing what he is.

Esteban Vihaio, Firstly, colleges can force students to play in the saturday college league.

How do the colleges force kids to play?? I would suggest it is more bluff and bullying. Do parents pay for education or sport. What is a school going to do if a kid doesnt want to play school sport. Maybe this should be another thread.

Juniors are the life blood of every club, if Edwardstown or who ever want to join our league make them have the full compliment of teams.

SFL is encouraging SFL clubs to promote junior teams but will let Edwardstown in with no Saturday Juniors? If this happens it will show more than ever that the sfl are ostrichs.

As someone who was involved in junior football at a few clubs, this is not a bluff and doesn't need it's own thread. Perhaps you should ask someone who sends their kids to a private school for information or speak to a bomber on the w/e about sacred hearts impact on their juniors; ever wonder why they've suddenly able to fill two sides in their junior comp with the new sunday league?

Most, if not all require their kids to take part in extra curricular activities as part of the 7-15k contract they sign for the school year student.

Now you got me going on one of my pet peeves. Schools (including colleges) should have no right to dictate what kids do with their Saturdays. If its locked into a contract that only shows how rotten this world is becoming.
If schools want kids to play sport for them, they should play their matches in school hours !!!

Just to add to the college debate (understanding it's not what the thread is about). You'll find it actually becomes a thing of pride for the college to do well at sport. If you ever get the chance go and watch the SHC vs Kilmore college games and look at the support there. The crowd would come close to outstripping most SANFL games.

I have kids that attend at SHC. I understand that they are supposedly required to play A sport. Reality is that SHC and others bully and intimdate kids and parents into playing football for the school.

ON EFC coming into the SFL what is or is there a contract with SHC that allows SHC to play games Saturday morning on Edwardstown Oval. How will this impact on the ability of EFC to field a full compliment of teams in the SFL Saturday comp?

If they are allowed to enter without a full compliment of teams this will surely cause a programing nightmare for the SFL and subsequently affect the resources of the other SFL clubs, trainers etc. at it did this year with clubs playing at three different venues on the one day.

Esteban VihaioI am fully aware of the BDOS Sunday comp. teams the standard of Sunday Junior footy does nothing to develop either the kids or the Competition the Sunday sides would be well and truly smacked by the top 5/6 Saturday sides.

I would say 99.9% of footballers attending Shc WANT to play First 18 Football. Ive never met a bloke that hasn't. Players like King, Mackie, Raymond have all been drafted by strong performances vs Kilmore etc and maybe have played 1 or 2 U19 games for an SANFL club and have played juniors with PHOS, Towns, BDOS etc.

On the other topic of SHC using Edwardstown Oval, there are many kids from SHC playing for Towns, that may be a reason that Towns let them play there to get them accustomed to the facilities and sign up as a junior player perhaps?

The SFL has two paths
- Accept that inner suburban clubs have a smaller junoir recruitment pool and rely on college students to fill the ranks and potentially grow the league
OR
- Do nothing, but I can't see many clubs canabalising their junoirs to join the SFL

SHOCS kids form a significant chunk the junior teams of Plymtpon and Edwardstown in the SAAFL (PHOS?), Morphy Parks and Brighton's mini's, and Brighton's sunday comp.

Positions I'd expect Edwardstown would prefer than having a half or no compliment of juniors
- A team in each grade on Sunday
- A team in each grade on Sunday and Saturday (e.g. Brighton)
- A mixture of teams on Saturday and Sunday

It's not all about the best 5 or 6 teams, I've seen plenty of kids come from either a second string team or a struggling club to become quality A-graders.
