Heres some light discussion.

I was thinking about the venues that are issued for finals. Always the same grounds are given them, and we all know the main reason and thats extra money for the SFL. The venues chosen have the best fences and general set ups to maximize the gate takings for the league to make a lot of money. Of course the grounds are chosen for other good reasons as well.

I think some grounds that would be great for finals get overlooked or brushed aside just because they dont provide that key element needed for the SFL of maximum gate takings.

2 grounds I think would be fantastic for finals are Hackham and Marion.

Hypothetically heres the list in order of greatest finals locations from best to worst taking into account surface, ground size/shape, parking/watching from your car, spectator viewing areas, atmosphere, changerooms etc. but not factoring maximum gate taking capabilites.

1. Pt Noarlunga
2. Hackham
3. Christies
4. Aldinga
5. Marion
6. Noarlunga
7. Reynella
8. Happy Valley
9. Morphett Vale
10. Flagstaff Hill
11. Brighton
12. Edwardstown
13. Cove
14. Morphie Park
15. OSB/ Lonsdale

Finals should be about home ground advantage not gate takings, but anyway....... I think Edwardstown should be higher, good enclosed atmnosphere due to the track, woiuld be great with a lot of supporters making some noise. Valleys should also be higher, good size ground, great lights if required, good facilities, but needs a small grandstand. Brighton OK except the lack of size of the oval and the mudpit that it becomes at this time of year. Reynella is OK too, just the condition of the ground that can be an issue..

Don't rate Hackham at all. No atmosphere, ridiculously wide wings and not great catering. M/Vale is OK except that damned scoreboard. What a shocker...

Of course there isnt much atmosphere at general games against Hackham, but imagine finals there with lots of cars and teams and supporters. There is heaps of room for cars and that hill similar to porties, good deck and size and Im sure they would cater accordingly for a big finals event.....

He got one game

Geez I'm out of the loop, what was there a suspension for??
Maybe they could ask Stringer to come coach vis01 he done pretty well for you guys didn't he??
Can anyone tell me the ruling on a suspended coach?? Are they just not allowed on the oval or not allowed inside the gates altogether??
I'm tipping the suspension Would be for not have sufficient tanning done for the game ?? :)

Last year Chris Ladhams was suspended for 8 weeks (reduced to 4 after threatening to take RMFL to court) by the RMFL tribunal because of being found guilty of a striking charge and as he was the coach of the Jervois Football club was not permitted on the ground at all. He had to coach the side from outside the playing arena. No suspended player, coach, official is permitted on the ground, on match days until the suspension is served

Can't see Brighton leaving. Why would they? They've got next year's flag sewn up - if anyone likes to give me odds on that I'm game to put $100 on it - and they're powerful in the league in their own right.

Marion - who knows. I don't think the SFL would care if they left, and with their $$$ they'd be able to go wherever they liked. (And yes, they DO have $$$ despite all this rubbish about them being broke, you don't have pokies and bloody club-of-the-year and whatnot if you haven't got the money for it.)

What you fail to realize is that the pokies are part of the Social Club. The football club does not benefit at all from Pokie intake. There are also a significant amount of other sporting clubs that use the Social Club. Last year not 1 player was charged fees, as an incentive to lure players to the football club for it to survive,so the football department had to pay that money from past profits. This year they are, but reduced, once again digging into the savings.
So before you have such tunnel vision, what you have to understand is that the Football club itself has'to fight and scrap for every dollar it can, like most clubs do, with many volunteers busting thier arse week in week out. It is a totally different scenario then to your club, as yours maybe solely as football club, and with comments youve made above, I don't expect you to understand what lengths MFC have to go through to pass decisions threw the Social Club.

Fair enough. :) I wasn't aware of that.

I'm curious as to how Brighton has next year's flag sewn up. What about this years? What about Happy Valley, would they have a say in this or will they just hand it over without a fight?

Very peculiar point of view.

S***. Didn't realise I'd typed that. I burnt myself with a kettle that night and got given Endone for the pain and it made me pretty keyboard-happy. Ah well. Happy Valley will win it this year. Next year Brighton will outlay the cash to get a better team than Valley. Maybe that is a peculiar point of view. Or an astute one. All depends. ;)

Final comes all the way down to the last round!

Scenarios:
Flagstaff Hill - play valleys away, if win they make it
If they lose they still make it unless edwardstown win then they would miss.

Edwardstown - plays Morphie Pk at home, if win they make it
If lose they will miss the 8

Morphett Vale - plays reynella at home, if win they will make it only if towns lose also.
If they win but flaggy and towns win they will not make it either.
If they lose they miss the 8.

Reynella - plays morph vale away, if win they will make it, unless both flaggy and towns win, then they would miss
If they lose they miss the 8

Christies - play Aldinga, but even with a big win, fall half a game short of being able to make it. Will miss the 8

Well then, going on form: Reynella to defeat M/Vale, M/Ville to beat Towns, Valley to beat Flaggies. Emu's and Townies to miss.

One game to go before finals, is Brighton missing some players or are they playing a little below expectations at present?
Two very close wins of late makes me think they are very lucky to be sitting 2nd on the ladder.

Apologies to both Petoe and Moe, but it is not that simple. I reckon spots 3, 4 & 5 and 7 & 8 will come down to percentage.

It is rare on this forum for the SFL committee to get praise, but in this instance they certainly got the round 20 draw 100% spot on. Congratulations!!!

Agree cracker round coming up and would bet that the emus v wineflies game on Sunday will have a Huuuuuge crowd if things go their way on Saturday and they both have a shot of playing finals

Looking at the ladder it also seems that Brighton could drop to 4th if they have a bad day at the office and that would not be a good thing for Valleys - especially after a poor game on Saturday. I reckon the lads are hoping they only have to face Brighton once in the GF
