Recruiting generally means money (often big money) and sometimes having an exodus of players allows a club to re-assess its priorities and look to build from within with lads who have played all their footy for the club, love the club, and just waiting for an opportunity to get a crack at playing A grade footy.
We have lost some lads who were good club people but as Reynella found out at the end of 2011, once 1 A grade player leaves for ridiculous coin elsewhere others will want a piece of that action as well particularly when those lads get their Premiership like Reynella in 2010 and Brighton in 2011. Often this will occur when a coach departs regardless of the reason for his departure so the timing was inevitable for losing some players. What does concern me is the sort of coin that country clubs are starting to throw around in the last 2 or 3 years. Surely some of the locals putting up the coin for players could better utilise their money to support the local community rather than bring in ageing blokes with dodgy bodies for a un-guaranteed quick fix at their precious footy clubs. Does a town really take pride in the success of its local footy team if most the lads aren't locals and have never had a connection with the town?
Bottom line is that the Bombers have a coach and coaching staff who are ideally suited to bring the next generation through and if that means we have to take a small step backwards to move forward then so be it. One thing for sure, our lads will be super fit and will be very keen to surprise those who are already writing us off in 2013.
