But I would go with:

Brighton-Marion
Aldinga-pt noar
Something like this, would make the league a lot better.

I was thinking about this aswell, however I only see 2 possible mergers occuring, as both clubs need some sort of benefit out of the deal.. There is no way clubs like Mvale, Cove, BDOS, Porties will give up some of their identity to help out a struggling club.

Lonsdale-Hackham:
Hackham will benefit from the added numbers (improvement in depth)
Lonsdale gain the Facilities down at Hackham. Maybe the Southern Hawks?

Likewise Morphy Parks could give up the Pasty, and make a move to Marion who have arguably the best facilities in the SFL.
This wont happen if I can help it! I would rather merge with Brighton if it came to it. Marion's facilities may be the best, but is a sports club with a football team, not a footy club. Morphy Parks oval is not the best, granted, but it oozes tradition and history (short as it is).

It oozes square boundaries, gum trees that drop all over the place and an undulating surface akin to being on the moon. ;)
All that aside though, I agree with you. The Marion facilities are great if you're looking for a beer and a meal, but it just isn't and doesn't feel like a footy club. There is very little atmosphere at the game as most people are up the top, rather than around the boundary and involved in the game. Morphy Parks and Brighton would be a logical merger if it ever had to happen, or possibly Edwardstown.

Either way things go, change has to happen or that change will simply be clubs disappearing into the ether. I'd far rather have 10 strong teams all with good facilities, rather than 15 with average levels of interest, support and infrastructure to support teams. Mergers are not necessarily a question of geography, but of common sense also ie: what will be best for the two clubs. If it was simply geography, then Happy Valley and Flagstaff Hill would be logical, but both those clubs can stand on their own two feet, have good facilities and great junior programs that keep attracting the kids, so there's nothing in it other than reducing the number of clubs.

Will be interesting to see if the SFL allow things to continue to wilt, or if there is a genuine will to address the issues and revive a great local league that is an important part of the community.

Maybe I should revisit my quote. Our oval is not great! That's a given. Our CLUBROOMS ooze tradition and history. You just cant beat that old outdated 30 meter long red bar. Classic! :D

Agreed! Maybe the bar could be a non-negotiable in any merger proposal, could possibly get it heritage listed.

The bar is a money maker, taken plenty of my hard earned, but given back plenty of good nights. one of the great SFL club rooms on a sat night. Good people, great atmosphere.

would like to see Vikings vs Roos this week. some other good games in the mix.
heard valley was training 3 x per week in pre season and up till recently.
Spose U would do it if you had their chances of going back 2 back this yr.

Do morphies have the graffiti on the wall near the pool table/canteen area???

Big fan of the bar also like how the opens up for the outside.

Dunno where you heard that - they trained 3 times a week in preseason but I reckon you only had to go 2 of those nights

Should be a ripper game this week

Agreed, I'll be going to watch the game of the round hopefully. First real test for the Vikings this year, so should tell us a lot more about how good they are and how well their 2 big recruits have fitted into an already successful team.

All things considered (as far as the SFL disparity goes) it is one of the more even rounds I have seen for awhile.

Great to see Cove turn a 5 goal deficit into a win, hopefully this turns the season. Mick must have wound up at 1/2 time.

Understand the Brighton young guns got up over the Shoes, great for the comp.

A draw between morphy parks and happy valley!

Morphy Park must be worried about the depth? I see they only fielded 19 in the 2's with a number of juniors doubling up must be praying for an injury free season to come.

Haha. We were just saying " how long before vics brought up morphy parks depth" took you about 15 minutes.. Your negativity towards the club is bordering obsession mate. I know your all about the kids, so the colts playing seniors should be a good thing. ;) .
No doubt the clubs B grade is a concern this year but how good is it for the comp to have some new faces being competitive?

I'm sure you'll say you we're just making that point yourself but we all know you want morphy parks to fail and disappear into the sunset. Keep talking mergers and lack of direction buddy but the people down there know the club and know what there doing and are working their butts off, I'm sure the club will be around for years.

I'm glad to see you have kissed and made up with Cove it's terrible when such positive people as yourself take their bat and ball and go home.

Great round for the comp and despite its obvious problems regarding 2 divs but it's also nice to be positive at times and talk it up when we can. From Heath (friend of Ab) no account but I couldnt read your rubbish anymore. I know this will go in one ear and out the other with you but try and remember how you feel about cove people feel about their own club.

Adelaide Bank is no more swallowed up up by reality. just like MP success at the moment. Swallowed and forgotten

Fact is successful clubs have depth. Having 19 players and 3 juniors doubling up in the 2's at this time of year is not good.

Promotion of juniors is not about flogging them, it is about developing kids not abusing to survive..

Lets take away the bonus player points and see where you may be at??

Great BAR at Morphies, I reckon that's where you spend at lot of time..

Yeah Shoeys decimated with 10 A Graders out through injury , but all credit to Brighton they worked hard for the win , pity no more than 30 or so supporters saw it , floods of people leaving after the completion of each grade is not a good look
