Down the Hill wrote:Keyser Soze, why do you think a club loses a heap of A grade players who are prepared to do a 300km plus round trip every Saturday the next season. Because they are getting a shitload more coin than what they were getting. And your sums aren't quite right regarding what our junior subs income would be but can I provide a direct quote from the now infamous Raffle-Gate email. "Our fees received don't even cover one-third of our yearly expenses". That smacks of a club who is wooing players and parents with subs that are fixed way below what they should be - but that's OK because we will bleed them dry through other means. Big risk in doing that, as has been proven. Next you will be trying to flog Amway to your members. I just hope your highly paid players aren't on a promise of a Premiership bonus. Could be some red faces on Grand Final night.

Keyser I agree your sums probably arent right - hear a rumour on Saturday the tanned ones are charging $230 for minis and $275 for juniors

Breeding a great culture of paying high fees ... and for what? What exactly do they get for it but a club with poor facilities, lack of medical staff and one that caters to the college system - how many of these kids stick around and play seniors footy there?

So both Brighton and Happy Valley have won one flag in the last 9 years hey DTH - difference with our club to yours is we try to keep the fees low for our junior families and look after them creating a club atmoshphere that they want to return to - why else do you think players like the Eagletons, Ben Squire and Tom McNamara chose to come back to the club they grew up with and play with their mates when they could have gotten much bigger $ elsewhere. Dont think Peterson Gray and Brown werent been head hunted too in the off season but chose to stay at Valleys because of the club culture.

DTH the Emus lads were arrogant when they were winning their flags - so they should be they were a very impressive unit who deserved their success

Don't start publishing figures that are WRONG. In fact one of your figures is almost $100 out so keep this up and you'll be receiving a PM from our Solicitor. We cater for players in our immediate area regardless of where they go to school. Anything else would be discrimination. Didn't McNamara go to Sacred Heart and play school footy instead of club footy when required for school footy. And why isn't young Tate playing much for HV at the moment.

It was only a few years ago that away teams were changing in a tin shed at Happy Valley. We would love to make some improvements to our changerooms but it is Council owned building and they are sitting on plans regarding a major overhaul of the entire Brighton Sports Complex. New lights and new goal posts is proof that serious money has been raised on improvements. We have been to the big dance 5 times since 2003 to your once, plus picked up the last 5 B grade flags. All done with 80% plus of players that came through our juniors. We don't need blokes to return to our club because most never leave in the first place. J.Eagleton didn't exactly rush back to HV after he finished at Westies.

Enjoy your time in the sun Mister Footy because your "Dad's Army" A grade won't be all playing together for much longer.

Heard a rumour today that Porties have sacked Phil Pippett as A grade coach????

Did see him sniffing around at Cove on Sunday with the management.. Does this mean that Moller needs to start wearing a vest to protect himself..

So set the record straight DTH, what are the junior/mini subs?

It must be remember that additional fees are added on for those families who don't want to help on the BBQ. True or False?

Nobody knows about red faces on grand final day like Brighton?

Bring on the finals!

^This s*** is better than Facebook when people argue about who slept with whom and other people are going 'I didn't bang either of you! My wang's as clean as a whistle!' (even though it's more like a whistle with crabs and probably a blue-ringed octopus). Keep it up. :-D

"No wonder facilities are average" , and hardly surprising that visiting spectators bring their own grog to the ground either ,when Barstaff continually overlook you to serve Club members first ,has to be one of the worst grounds to have to go to , got my hip flasks packed and ready to go for the final round

According to many on this forum we hardly have any club supporters for the bar staff to serve so visting clubs should have no problem getting a beer.

Apologies then for the Grandstand (albeit getting a bit old), elevated viewing on the Western side, coffee van, top 2 or 3 clubrooms in the SFL, a symmetrical oval, coaches boxes that are actually positioned where coaches boxes should be and (at last) proper sized goal posts.

All grounds have their good points and bad points. Some are better for players than spectators whilst others are the opposite. Don't get me wrong OMM, your ground and general facilities are rated very highly by all clubs in the SFL but a bit rich in focussing on Brighton and overlooking some of the other SFL grounds.

We look forward to your visit Saturday week and we'll ensure the bar staff are hospitable to our visitors. Better still, why don't you shelve the evil liquor for a day and enjoy a nice latte or 2 from our coffee van. I know your President will.

I thought the oval was in surpisingly good nick last week. It was firm and no real bog spots. Has the drainage been improved, as I can remember it usually being a mudpit at this time of year?

Outer side always been good and but now better drainage on the western side after some council works in the last 12 months, plus a working bee of players in March to top dress some of the low spots which also helps with run off. Turf wicket sqaure will always create problems after a big downpour and our ground was struggling in our previous 2 home games but recovered quicker than it would have in previous years. The weekly timing of this winters rainfall has created more wet weather footy than the last couple of years. It seems most rain we have had, has fallen on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday and it appears this week will be no different.

Correct, the footy gods seem to be favouring those that like the ball on the ground. Oh well, prefer that than dealing with another drought, especially given council plans to charge clubs for their water usage. Just another way the friendly voice of the citizens is assistiing to make life harder for sporting clubs.

Interesting concept, what does make good clubrooms? I tend to think it is the "vibe", how well are they decorated with the club's history etc.

Looking at Brighton, the layout & size of the rooms is pretty good, but the photos etc seem to be hidden a bit.

Its something we are getting better at, our size is reasonable and practical.

Aldinga - Will check out again this week, good position but a little small.
Noarlunga - have done a bit of work on their displays in recent years, they do suffer from size however.
Port Noarlunga - feels like a football club, do miss the pin collection though
Hackham - Has laked the feel of a football club in recent years, will be interesting to see how that changes in the coming months with the changes happening down there
Morphett Vale - have always had a pretty good setup, their premiership photo display is excellent, new trophy cabinet pretty good too, still got the wood pannelling aswell which definitely helps the look & feel
OSB Lonsdale - obviously struggle for size and position, at the weekend looked like their display has had a bit of work
Reynella - good set up, decent bar, little pre SFL information tho.
Cove - Small and a bit disjointed. Still haven't worked out the cobra in the cabinet
Happy Valley - Good size, the cabinet works well. The beams assist in displaying the flags
Flagstaff Hill - a bit like Cove in regards to size and layout, displays seem to focus more on current juniors than celebrating past successes
Marion - feels more like a pub with an oval out the back
Edwardstown - pretty good setup, impressive honour board & the photo display is good quality
Morphettville Park - Interesting shape (like everything there), the big red bar is always good

Kangarilla used to be good, Willunga have a good set-up, have not seen McLaren since being upgraded.

Thanks for the heads up AFC , I will leave the yabby pots home this trip, as for giving the evil liquor a rest ? Always been a great believer that if "You Drink Jack Daniels and Barrack for The Mighty Shoes,You Will Go to Heaven " and I need all the help I can get
