Maybe some temporary shading could go up on the other side of the ground for GF to drag a few spectators across.

Been to 3 GF's this year ( football tragic ) and first time to a SFL GF. While the atmosphere was good it was not to the level of the others on country grounds where the crowd was around the entire ground.

Mind you I only saw the A-Grade and they tell me Flaggies covered the whole outer wing earlier. Was the atmosphere better in the B-Grade due to this.

South's ground may still be the way to go - just with some adjustments to enhance the day.

100% agree with this post, cars allowed in the pocket should be the first move.

From Gate Takings the SFL have estimated between 3,500 and 4,000 paying customers there on Saturday but probably at least another 1,000 or more who were Under 16 plus the numerous freebies. The outer is fairly unforgiving when the sun is out and anything warmer than 22 or 23 and it got to 25 on Saturday. Then again it is also unforgiving if cold and wet but we haven't had too many of those since being at Hickinbotham. Some sort of permanent shades or something that the SFL could organise for GF day would help disperse more of the crowd to the outer and assist with around the ground atmosphere.

But define true atmosphere LGIL. Even if cars are parked around the whole oval it may look better in a picture or on video but many of those right up on the fence wouldn't even be watching or barracking in the minor GF's. I sat on the outer during the A grade (working on my white winter legs) and the scene looking to the Western side was terrific and the noise whenever a goal was scored was very loud. Maybe all video and pictures should be taken from the Eastern side for better effect. I know one lad who played in a junior GF on Saturday who thought the experience of playing at Hickinbotham was the best day of his football life to date.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your day being a traitor and going to another leagues GF instead of your own.

What an atmosphere!

Great goal by BW (#8 for the flies) in her last game against the boys. She can play!

She is good. Is that the rules? Girls can only pay to U14's? She should keep playing if she is good enough. well done.

Be interested in this also as I have a girl in my Under 10's who will be Under 12 next year, and she smashes the boys, would have been in my teams top 5 players. Her parents have been told about the female leagues but they feel she only likes footy as she loves the challenge of beating up on the boys!

Pretty sure it is the rule Dutchy (U/14s is where the girls finish). Knowing her I'm sure she'd keep going if she could.
I'll run it past her folks to get the rule clarified.

Why a traitor? The teams playing there meant as much to me as the teams playing at Hickinbotham

Dutchy
The ruling is a girl can play footy (mixed) until the day she turns 15 years old and on that day of her birthday she ceases playing footy with the boys and if wants to continue playing with girls they have a great comp running out of Morphettvile Park footy club

I'm pretty sure this has been raised many times over the years and the SFL have not embraced it. I recall videoing the Flaggies U 14 permiership in 1999 on an old Sony recorder on a tripod. Done a lot more since, however last w/e Flaggies had the B Grade and U 18's (both premierships!!!!) done professionally. That was the group in the top of the stand. Great memories preserved for ever. The SFL should have this as a permanent at every GF, and allow anyone the access to purchase the product. I'm sure it would be a fund raiser for the SFL.

Let me see if I have got this right - Flaggies paid a professional mob to video their 18s and B grade game so they could have their premiership memories preserved forever? Bit presumptuous wasn't it?

The videos were done professionally, but not by commercial professionals - and not paid. Some very talented club people. The camera work was as good as most of the "professional" jobs I've seen and it included very high quality commentary as well. Great job by the boys, and the copies will be a treasured possession for all involved. Was great to sit and watch the wins again at the club on Sunday :)

fantastic idea... nothing wrong with forward think... if you lose you can offer the victors the option of buying the footage, so you won't llose any $$$...

There were discussions I believe in 2010 that Reynella and Brighton were going to go halves in paying someone to film it and obviously the winner would get the copies.
Not sure why but didn't happen in the end and the Reynella players were very disappointed they didn't have a copy of the game.
It's a great idea to have it done, great work by Flaggies.

I know Morphy Pk had the A Grade taped professionly, if the Reynella Footy Club are looking for a copy might pay for them to give Morphy's a call.
