Hey why not make it an 8 game season then, it can be all over by 30/6 and players can then be transferred to other leagues!!!

2 less games = 2 less pay days for players, trainers, medical supplies, and 1 less brand new Sherrin. Does one home game cover 2 weeks of these costs? Sponsorship and non match day fundraising initiatives shouldn't be affected. Yes, 2 less weeks of Saturday night bar trade but not all clubs get direct benefit from this depending on sports club arrangements. The less games, less income argument has been trotted out before but it has to be balanced against expenditure. At least the ambos will be happy. 2 less Saturday's of ramping at Flinders!!!

Would players then look at other leagues ove SFL because they can earn more. Both divs in the HFL this year are 9 team comps so also only 16 game season.

Hi the nail on the head there, 16 game season makes sense in the HFL as they will play each other twice home and away, makes no sense in the SFL.

BTW its important to note this was a club based decision not the SFL's.

Dutchy 2017 will be a dogs breakfast but going forward with changes to constitution regarding compulsory junior grades and a 10 team comp with home and away against all the comp will slowly gain respect again . :D

As per the SFL's post on their Facebook page, the clubs were asked to vote and a majority went for the shorter season (I believe the vote was 8-3).
I am struggling to comprehend why a majority of the clubs want to play less games.
Shouldn't a football club be promoting the playing of football and hence promoting as many games as possible??
Can anyone with links to the clubs not wanting to play a 'real' season shed any light on why their clubs voted this way?
Looking at the financial impact a little differently - will these clubs be reimbursing part of their members' fees after voting to offer less football to their members?

I guess you are assuming Marion go to SAAFL in 2018 and Hackham do not re-appear from the C Grade comp?

If so, yes that leaves us with 10 teams. But do we really expect Lonsdale to become competitive? A 10 team comp is great, just not sure we will have the right 10 teams...

It's not such a happy valley at the moment - more players leaving or taking early retirement.
Changing of the guard not proving as easy as thought.
I predict it will be another year of not making finals
Committee need to take a long hard look at what or who is the cause

Pity to see so many people involved with the club leaving

Seems like a very junior focussed club ATM [-(

What are the clubs doing for their trial games?

Flaggies have Goody Saints, Murray Bridge Ramblers and Shoes home in the 3 weeks leading up to R1, all grades playing I believe.

Two SFL clubs playing each other the week before round 1 - could have made it an 18 round season and played for points :?
