The umpiring was attrocious saturday for the Cove Morphet Vale game.... But bad for both sides and doubt highly that as many free kicks were paid as has been posted on here!!!!! It was bad against both sides Cove had 2 goals disallowed in the last qtr for shepharding the ball threw and the other for a push in the back which was weird considering they were side by side one on one.... Hopefully the umpiring improves in the coming weeks!!!!

Jono youre correct in saying that the umpiring was definately bad for both sides but one thing is for sure and that was the free kick count,if im wrong with this statistic then the bloke who does the a grade stats should get the arse.Surely for the game of the round, the best two umps available should be doing this game.God help us if these two were the best.

I would say Morphies would have to be the most improved club of the comp???

They had a few clubs worried!!!

good finish of the season by the Twisties, how do you guys rate your chances against Pt Noarlunga this weekend? should be a decent game...

MATTEE G Read on not everybody seems happy with selection etc I would say.

You have a point there Hagooooooooo, but it really shits me that once we start to come up against the better opposition, the numbers fall significantly from training.

How can we seriously expect to improve if we have this mentality that these other sides are so much better than us, that there is no point in even trying? My proof will be that numbers will rise once we start playing the 'beatable sides' again.

But i guess its the same old story every year. The same blokes bust their arse and train every night while others simply dont bother to show up. Until we change this attitude, we cant seriously expect to get any better!!

Spot on Butch, problem seems to be that this trend is the same every year no matter what is said at the start of the season. However, I thought things were changing for the best when we knocked off some of the teams around us, e.g. Lonsdale, Christies and Marion, which we have failed to do in previous years, and everyone was on the track, fighting for a spot in both grades. But again numbers have fallen away in the tough part of the season, i.e. cold and wet at training and strong opposition on Saturdays.

This then produces the question; who should get picked to play on Saturdays????

This is where the club and coaching staff face a bit of a dilemma: do they pick their best 21 for the A grade and next best 21 for the B grade regardless of attendance at training or do they reward the guys who have been out since day one of pre-season and every training since???

Of course the club wants to win every game, so you want to pick your best players. So the question really is: who is a better player? Is it the guy who has performed well in the A grade in the past, but feels they don’t need to train twice a week, or is it the guy who has the club’s best intentions at heart, trains twice a week and consistently performs in the B grade?

My question is to all on the forum, who do you think will take the club to the next step?

Jono, how is the general feeling around the club at the recruitment of Size?

From what I saw on the weekend he didn't exactly do anything that Drew Graham couldn't have given the chance.

Hardly worth the money that was bandied around about him earlier in the year.

Size has had a tough year.... Played really well the first 2 rounds before being injured and missing a lot of footy.... Came back for two games before hurting himself again but has now put 4 games on the trot together...He is well liked by the players and there small men say he is a great tap ruckman.... Probably can be hurt around the ground but ruckwork around the ground he is really good!!!! He will be a lot better next year and who knows he may even be a premiership player.... Cove need him for 5 to ten minutes a qtr to relieve Gill, if you were there sat momentum swung towards Morphett Vale after half time and they were only down by a point at three qtr with all momentum... Size started in the ruck and Cove kicked a couple goals before a fresh Gill came on half way thru last to finish it off....So i think that shows they have some confidence in him

Westies take a few of the best but they do that to every club...cant be used as an excuse because one aim of any club should be to get as many kids as you can playing the highest level they can.

What they do need is some big units to play key positions and ruck, as well as to persist with the young fellas and fill them out a bit. They still struggle with the bigger bodied teams, even the twisties on Saturday had a couple of big fellas they could bail out and kick high to- Flaggies dont have that luxury.

Losing Ian Cox was also a big loss IMO.

All 5 Saturday grades have made the finals, so the improvement is still continuing. Looking for a big scalp in the Seniors this week.
