Aldinga (as much as I'd love the Sharks to make the finals, I'm not sure who's actually going to be playing next year, so I'll wait and see before I change my mind)
Noarlunga
Marion
Flagstaff Hill
Lonsdale
Hackham

Oh, yeah, I'll have to chuck in Edwardstown somewhere, won't I? Will reserve judgment until after the first couple of rounds next year.

Now I'm going to wait for T Express to tell me I know NOTHING about football and to go watch netball instead. :-) Nah, I think next year will be quite interesting and unpredictable, and that finals spots will be up for grabs by a lot of improving teams.

Morphie park 6th?? And Reynella 7th. Thats bold prediction!!

I'm with fisho on this one, at least for the 1 - 2 seasons looking at last years rise and knowing the personnel running the joint. Yes, their long term future is clouded by a distinct lack of colts, but if they play to their strengths and keep attracting those young country footballers moving to town, their immediate future is finals.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Not unless your coach for 2008 was Shane Lynch. I don't know - I haven't heard much about Flaggies lately, so I just stuck them in anywhere. :) I'll have a better idea of things in a few months' time.

Comes down to who is the best on the day, if your the best team on the day a few weeks in a row you become the best team of the year and win the premiership. A well earned Premiership by Cove in 2008, but it will be very hard to back it up, not saying they can't, but there are some good teams to challenge them!

Rating side by how long it could take them to crack the top three IF ALL THINGS come up trumps (based on juniors and recent A grade performance)

1 seasons - Porties, Happy Valley
2 seasons - Reynella
3 Seasons - Flagstaff Hill
4 Seasons - Noarlunga, M/Park
5 Seasons - Chrisites Beach, Aldinga
6 Seasons - Marion
9 Seasons - Lonsdale (On account of no juniors)
10 Seasons - Hackham

NotOut, Esteban has done pretty well with this post. I think the top 6 teams will be the same again although i believe Flaggies and Noarlunga will close the gap on them. As for picking the top 4, it is very early but would definately have to go with Cove and Vales, then it's anybodies guess from Valleys, Brighton, Porties and Reynella. Footy club success generally goes in cycles and i reckon there will be some pretty disappointed clubs in 5 years time when they need to start to rebuild an A grade side and haven't managed to win a flag during this time, eg Reynella (especially), Brighton, Valleys, Porties. Top 8 for the next 3 years, in no particular order:

Cove
Vales
Porties
Brighton
Reynella
Happy Valley
Flaggies
Noarlunga

It pains me to say it but you would have to imagine Brighton will be coming pretty good in the next 3 years - they won pretty much every flag on offer besides the A grade this year.

I notice no-one has mentioned Edwardstown in their predictions...??

Haha very good point, forgot about the Townies already, would have to slip them into the 8 and probably around the same mark as Valleys and Reynella at this stage. Will be harder for Noarlunga and Flaggies to make the 8 with them in, but i don't think any other sides will be able to get too close to finals.

I have, not sure about anyone else. Is Wes Bilney and Ben Stokes playing there again? Just don't think they have any depth to make the 8, sorry mrf.

Well well what can i say... When you posted this Magoo we were well and truly entrenched in a drinking session that has only just finished... Can i categorically state that the Gold Coast is a MAGNIFICENT place to visit for a footy trip... So unfortunately for you Magoo no discontent just 28 mates having the time of their lives... The new coach was a hot topic for most of the day on Friday and his appointment has been well received and all are very much looking forward to the new era that he will bring with him... Has done it as both a player and coach so will be highly respected...

Onto other appointments now... Those interested watch for this weeks messenger as our advert for B grade and juniors will be in...

LOL the GF was just over a month ago - probably shouldnt be writing anyone off just yet! But Exelby will have to bring in a fair few players mrf for the Rams to be a force again IMHO. As Damien said they have very little depth, i got myself dropped to the McGoos against Marion this year and their B grade were simply awfull, i was shocked.

Saying that, as a player Exelby was a wiley little master so id imagine he'd be a pretty fair coach as well, and if he's been given a "warchest" as people are mentioning and he can bring some players from wherever he's been in the Hills, they might be a surprise packet.

Id say that Emus wouldnt pay 1/5 th of what they are getting at Jervios and thats a fact. Depends if these guys want to sacrifice that sort of money i spose, loyalty in footy is rare these days. The reason Morphies have been so strong for last 5 years is the majority of there players are willing to stay for 50 -100 a game rather than chase the big dollars. Its also the main reason clubs with cash like jervios target Emus players.

The guys who have left have missed out on some awesome memories to play in flags with players they grew up with at their home club. They may have premierships elsewhere but its not the same.

Great post that..!!

I think Marion will suprise a few people next year in both A & B grade. Exciting times down there at Ram park everyone keen & some very handy players to be signed in the next couple of weeks. My prediction for the Rams - 6th. Go on shoot me down but time will tell. Watch out for the Rams. Some onboard already which will cause teams some headaches.

There has been talk of $$$ at Marion next year so i am sure there will be an improvement of sorts, that may not be immediate in the 1's but more so the depth which is not too flash at the Rams... Exelby was a good player for them in the past but i am not so sure his coaching record is that great to this point in time, many a great player has failed as a coach (my old fav the Jumbo Prince comes to mind)... 3 years at Ironbank for poor results and am not sure what he did before that, if he's had success i will stand corrected...

Exelby - bottom 1 win, to an elimination final year after @ Ironbank, then sixth, just out of five to Hahndorf - Thats an immediate improvement in my books. We will see in due course I guess. From talking to Ex he is pretty excited & keen to stick it up some people - players are just as keen to turn the tables on some clubs - again it all makes for an exciting 09. A lot of money in Hills football of late and that tends to decide the top teams from the lower. Let the silly season begin hey!
Interesting to hear the points system is a definite in for next year - by the sounds the parity between top and bottom is only 4 points which = 1 player. Does not seem right to me if the SFL is planning on evening the playing field somewhat - will be interesting to hear the fi #-o nal outcome of the makeup of the points system they put into place. Each league seems to have their own unique system to keep their clubs involved happy, hope common sense prevails as 4 points difference between Hallett Cove & Hackham to me is a load of horseS*#t.

hi, long time player, first time writer... A few things... i). I think mc vale would be a fickle place to coach, based on my expereinces with the opinionated older generation, not to mention the cattle. And it amuses me that S hill took the job. crazy. perhaps he thinks he's the giant when he is merely james. ii). mvfc will improve more with sum1 like bishop at the helm having played under him. He's a well respeceted coach without a doubt and will be good for the blooding of unlimited junior talent at the club. who wouldn't want that job? iii). i love footy trips on the gold coast.

Congratulations Kooky, 1 more post to 1000!

Thankyou sir, I think 2 of the players are pretty easy to guess, but the 3rd one may raise a few eyebrows and make opposition teams think a little more on Saturdays.....
