Floating the idea of Saturday C grade, apparently the top 8 clubs support this idea. Reasons being same support staff etc at A, B and C grades, getting players to play in their correct grades.
I can see a drawback of players that work Saturdays and play Sundays, will they be lost to the game?

BDOS are the only club asking about 'C' on Saturdays.

Don't know where you heard that, but what you heard TBS is 100% totally incorrect.

But they "might" be given extra points to get them on their feet. But I want to acknowledge that this is not confirmend from my knowledge and could just be a rumour.

No they dont have any special concessions just that they where rated 7 on the ladder for scheduling games.(I personally beleive they should of been rated 1 as 2 years ago they where a div 1 side)
The points system is there to make a level playing ground? instead of the old salary cap. The top 6 sides have allocated 32 points and the other sides 35.

Points System
A maximum of 35 points and minimum of 32 points will be allocated to each club at the beginning of each season which will apply for each senior home and away or finals SFL match. A-Grade only.

The Clubs will be allocated points annually based on the following:-
  • The bottom four Teams (as listed on the Premiership Table in the preceding year) will be allocated a total of 35 points.
  • All other Teams will be allocated a total of 32 points.

All A-Grade players are worth 1 point each, any current junior player is worth 0 points.

Additional Penalty Points
  • 10 or more AFL Games = 5 additional points * See note 1
  • 10 or more Major State League (SANFL, WAFL, VFL) games = add 4 points * see note 2/3
  • 10 or more Minor State League (AFL NT/NSW/ACT/Q/TAS) games = add 3 points * see note 3
  • 10 or more Major State League Reserves (SANFL, WAFL, VFL) games = add 3 points
  • 10 or more games with another SFL club = add 3 points * see note 5
  • 10 or more Cat. 1 League games = add 3 points * see note 4
  • 10 or more Cat. 2 League games = add 2 points

note 1:
  • Deduct 4 points if the player is returning to the last SFL Club at which he played and at which he is seeking registration or if the player played junior football at the SFL club at which he is seeking registration.
  • Deduct 1 point if the player has not played AFL level football for a full season.
  • Deduct a further 1 point for each ongoing season until such time as the player is a base “one point player”.

note 2:
  • A SFL registered player playing SANFL returning to his SFL Club (or a SFL Club where he played junior football) shall not attract any additional points, irrespective of the number of SANFL games played.
  • Deduct 1 point if the player has not played SANFL level football for a full season.
  • Deduct a further 1 point for each ongoing season until such time as the player is a base “one point player”.

note 3:
  • Deduct 1 point if the player is returning to the last SFL Club at which he played and at which he is seeking registration.
  • Deduct 1 point if the player has not played State League level football for a full season.
  • Deduct a further 1 point for each ongoing season until such time as the player is a base “one point player”.

note 4:
CATEGORY ONE LEAGUES
Great Southern, Hills, River Murray, SA Amateur & Vic Metro Divisions 1, 2 3, Reserves (SANFL, WAFL & VFL)
CATEGORY TWO LEAGUES
All other Leagues in Australia
  • A player returning to his SFL Club (or a SFL Club where he played junior football) shall not attract any additional points, irrespective of the number of games played.
  • Deduct 1 point if the player has not played Major League level football for a full season.
  • Deduct a further 1 point for each ongoing season until such time as the player is a base “one point player”.

note 5:
  • All Registered SFL players who have played a total of 25 plus “A” and/or “Reserves” grade games with that SFL club (who have transferred out of the SFL) may return to that club as a base 1 point player.
  • If the player is returning to the SFL club at which he played juniors he shall attract no additional points under this section.
  • Deduct a further 1 point for each ongoing season until such time as he player is a base “one point player”.

Other Notes:
  • If a player has been out of the game at any level for 2 full seasons or more before resuming playing, the player will automatically revert to a basic “one point player”.
  • Playing Coach – for the purposes of points allocation, a playing coach is classified as a player.
  • A non playing coach shall not attract any points.
  • “Play” means being named on the match day Team Sheet in the “A” Grade.
  • “Junior Player” means registered Junior or Senior Colts player and for the purpose of deductions must have played a minimum of 10 games with the SFL club at which he is seeking registration.

I think the "concessions" that Edwardstown have been granted is that existing players transferring with the club will be treated the same as existing players, rather than being declared category 1 league recruits (ie not current SFL players) and accruing an additional 3 points per player.

I know its a bit early, but my tip for the Mail Medal this year is Matt Hearn from Edwardstown. The Southern League blokes wouldnt have seen much of him but he has SANFL experience and will run around like a headless chook all day whilst cracking jokes with the umpires.

Just noticed on the AFL website that Wes Bilney and Paul Munce nominated for the National draft this year. Good on them for giving it a go, but surely a bit optimistic.

The rules may have changed in the last year, but im fairly certain you had to have played seniors football, i.e league or reserves in the SANFL. Not nessacerily in the past year, just in your career. COuld be other factors as well, but the $10,000 idea is way off im sure.

I thought it was 5000 or 2000 but i could be way off 2. Im not sure on this either i believe you only have to of played in a sanfl team if you were a junior if your a senior it can be from anywhere. This rarely happens but someone got drafted today from mt gravatt.

I'm pretty sure you will find that anyone can nominate for the draft, with the money situation, you can nominate a fee, but minimun pay rate is either 55k or 60k I know back when the minimum was 30k brad ottens nominated 70k and who ever drafts you has to fullfill or surpass this pay...
