Yeah mate a couple lads went over there for a beer and a chat... Not sure if it had a direct effect but if it helped by 1% then it was worthwhile... He was seen the next day after his decision struggling around Wirreanda oval with a few of his mates doing some voluntary work...

Don't quote me on this but I think he's had a run with Towns before Cove.

Kane Hewitt played for is a cove junior went to West Adelaide played Reserves then to Edwardstown (when in Div1) then returned to captain cove then joined Morphett Vale. Hewitt would have been one of the best players in the SFL in the last few years and certainly one of the toughest.

How could you possibly think that you could run passed an opponent, making a lead expecting to pick up an easy kick, without protecting yourself? You're not playing year 2/3 football, you're playing with the big boys now!

What I'm saying is, why in the hell did you give him the chance?

If you're not tough you need to be smart. Obviously you are neither.

Gotta agree with you, Asert.

I've obviously played with a bit more success than you asert.

When I have copped one I don't cry about it like a girl, I accept that I either didn't recognise a potential problem and/or didn't protect myself properly.

It's your responsibility to protect yourself on the football field.

No mate. I'm not a C grader.

I'm now retired but I did play higher than Flaggys A grade.

Come on SSS, you're a bit harsh on Asert. I remember a game about 3 or 4 years ago between Brighton and the Emus. There was a blue and Beeching and a Brighton player were sent off and at the same time an Emu had to come off for blood. Hewitt replaced the blood player and went straight out to where there was still some push and shove, belted someone, and was duly sent off before play had even re-started. This also caused a Brighton blood rule and the interchange stewards were in melt down with 3 send offs and 2 blood rules at once.

Shit happens! But once again, it's up to you to protect yourself.

I typed it slowly that time. I hope you guys finally get it.

I'm not condoning on field violence, I'm simply saying that the onus is on you to protect yourself, especially if in the vicinity of someone with a reputation. You have to know your opponent. It's like knowing if he kicks with his left or right foot.

SSS
You are not quite right there
Your onus as a player IS TO GET THE BALL, OR PREVENT YOUR OPPONENT FROM GETTING THE BALL WITHIN THE RULES.

It is the umpires job to protect you in doing so.
Thugs should be umpired out of the game as per Barry Hall.
However in lower grades where thuggery is more common you do have to be aware of the blokes that are not playing the game in the right spirit.

Knowing if a player kicks left or right, or can take a good overhead mark is PART OF THE GAME
Hitting a player either off the ball or on the way to the ball is not part of the game.

Agree with you in the fact that here are snipers and thugs that you need to protect yourself against

Thanks TY. Just one point. Only one person can have the ball at any given time.

Many other things are going on around or off the ball - tackling, chasing, shepherding, leading, blocking etc. The onus is also on you to do all of these things, not just get the ball.
