There was a blue and Beeching and a Brighton player were sent off and at the same time an Emu had to come off for blood. Hewitt replaced the blood player and went straight out to where there was still some push and shove, belted someone, and was duly sent off before play had even re-started. This also caused a Brighton blood rule and the interchange stewards were in melt down with 3 send offs and 2 blood rules at once.
s***t happens! But once again, it's up to you to protect yourself.
I typed it slowly that time. I hope you guys finally get it.
I'm not condoning on field violence, I'm simply saying that the onus is on you to protect yourself, especially if in the vicinity of someone with a reputation. You have to know your opponent. It's like knowing if he kicks with his left or right foot.

You are not quite right there
Your onus as a player IS TO GET THE BALL, OR PREVENT YOUR OPPONENT FROM GETTING THE BALL WITHIN THE RULES.
It is the umpires job to protect you in doing so.
Thugs should be umpired out of the game as per Barry Hall.
However in lower grades where thuggery is more common you do have to be aware of the blokes that are not playing the game in the right spirit.
Knowing if a player kicks left or right, or can take a good overhead mark is PART OF THE GAME
Hitting a player either off the ball or on the way to the ball is not part of the game.
Agree with you in the fact that here are snipers and thugs that you need to protect yourself against
