O'Sullivan Beach/Lonsdale - Junior/Sub-Junior Sign Up Day
will be held this Saturday, February 7th at the club (Morphett Vale High School) from 11:00 a.m.

A free sausage sizzle will be provided from 12:00

We are close to fielding both under 14 and under 16 teams this
season. As we are trying to get these teams established there will be
no subs for under 14s or under 16s for 2009 season.

All aus-kick, 2/3's,4/5's,6/7's more than welcome.
Cheap subs for mini's $50 for the season including club shirt.

Are your kids not getting a fair go?

Your child will not be "just another number" at the Lonsdale Lions. We are committed to re establishing our junior programme. Our numbers have grown from zero in 2005 to 120 (and growing) in 2009. Give us a try you wont be disappointed.

Thanks TBB we are really working hard to make it happen. Our sub junior set up is thriving and we hope it flows though to higher grades. We know our long term success will depend on juniors flowing through to the senior system.

We still need 5-6 players at least to field an Under 14 team. Under 16's need a few more but we have quite a few senior guys (including guys still in the S.A.N.F.L system) that are willing to help out at training's and on game day to ensure the kids are being coached well, enjoying their football as well as getting the best out of themselves.

thats a wicked idea and i reckon it would help all the struggling families in a hard time we are in. hope it works for you

Obviously the club can afford to cover these costs? how much will you be out of pocket?

With the likely alternative being continued lack of juniors we can't afford not to cover it.

We'll be out the cost of guersneys and umpires fees, but we'll have extra kids and families around on a Saturday so some increase in canteen. But most importantly we'll have juniors.

I think the idea came from a discussion between the president and the junior co-ordinator.
Everyone seems to be behind it as they can see the need for juniors to be established. Over the last couple of years we've come close to getting under 14s but come up short and had to try combined teams, which has never worked out well.

The whole committee and club are behind the decision. The costs we will cover are quite large, new set of guernseys, umpire, strapping, trainer, footballs, insurance etc etc. I think that shows our committment to making it happen. Unfortunately in the past we have had 10-14 lads keen only to see them approached by other clubs or parents pull the pin because we cant gaurantee a team.

If we get U14 up and running in 2009 we have 36 year 6/7s coming through so we should be able to sustain the team and the strength should grow. If subs are too much or your child isnt getting a regular game or is playing in a second side why not give us a shot?

well that will be your biggest way to come back strong is juniors. you may make a loss this year but for the future it is an investment.keep us updated on the progress. you need to copyright it so everyone doesnt copy lol

Aldinga did exactly that in 2008, free membership for juniors, that included the U18's who ended up playing B or A grade. Good initiative.

An outstanding idea and I hope it really works for your club. Congratulations to the person/s who came up with the idea, you deserve to have success in your junior ranks and don't worry, you will. Well done!

Why not keep us posted on the success rate of new juniors gained from this idea.

The day was a success not sure on numbers though i will have to speak with Mark Mckay.

How many numbers did Mark sign up.

The waving of subs was it a winner.

I think we only signed a few under 14's but we signed plenty of new subbies. To be honest our message of free subs hasnt reached the right forums. We have placed them on school noticeboards/flyers and obviously safooty but we need the message to reach the parents. We are trying to explore other avenues to get our message out there including the messenger and letter box drops.

I can assure you of one thing the club is doing everything in its power to get a team together.

Then all parents will see the notice.

I can assure you of one thing the club is doing everything in its power to get a team together.

The letter box drop is a good one we did it as part of pre season and had groups run an area.

Notices were placed in school newsletters (or daily notes) at all the local secondary schools that would allow it. Apparently a couple declined when asked.
