Umpires in the SFL

Postby footy1992 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:30 pm

I think it's about time people had a place to go to have a talk about the umpires!
So if you have good or bad experiences with an umpire(s) at your game(s) put it out there!
I hear there is an influx of boundary umpires this year and as result there they will probably provide a minimum of three and even up too four for each SFL A grade game . Would definitely the lower the amount of any mistakes they might make.

Haven't had a bad game with an SFL umpire ever!! Seriously, these men in white are the game and players should be grateful we're even allowed onto the pitch.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

I wouldnt go that far. I do respect them for doing the hard job they do but there are some decisions that you just cant believe.

Might be best if everyone umpires 1 match and then comment - it can make you understand how hard it is. We have players who umpire B's and C's when they are injured or left out, and most will only do it once

Having said that, I wonder whether my eyes are painted on sometimes

Ive done boundry and copped abuse for that. But its really simple stuff that bewilders me. Eg. last season an opposition player gained possession pretty much on the 50m arc and ran all the way to the goalsquare steadying up without a bounce and didnt get called for running too far. Stuff like that. Most of the time i dont say anything to the umpire. Unless its a close game their decisions wont change the result of the game.

It's like the opposition ---- without them you don't get a game.

There was a fair bit of tounge in cheek....

This time seriously, I do think the umpiring standard in the SFL very high compared to other metro and country leagues, at least in this state. However, the tribunal is a joke.

We are very lucky with some very good umps in SFL ... but we do have some absolute shockers !! But it is hard to get guys to take on umpiring, its a hard job with the sh*t they get every week whether they deserve it or not. Lets just get behind them and encourage em - God help us if we had to have club umpires every week ! We REALLY NEED independent unpires for ALL A,B & C grade games.

Just think about it guys ... every time you bag an umpire (particularly a club-appointed umpire) may mean that umpire may pull the pin, and if he does - YOU'LL ONLY GET SOMEONE WHO IS WORSE NEXT TIME !!!

=D>

and have you seen them change their mind when you bag them?
and notice that you dont seem to get other free kicks...
I learnt very early - they are only human.
Bite your tongue or just say bugger and move on.
Let the other side complain and cop the questionable decisions.
Hard to do but it does work
