Big thanks and well done to Flaggies this afternoon. Playing at a different oval to their 12s and with 4 players out Lonsdale 14s were very short handed. Flaggies loaned them a couple of players until their 12s arrived. Great sportsmanship.

Thanks Waterboy. But really, isn't this what junior footy is all about... giving as many kids as possible the opportunity to play. If you think about it, what is gained by having your clubs "spare" players sitting on the pine cos the opposition are short?

No doubt we aren't alone with this gesture, as I'm sure all SFL Junior Coaches and Develpment staff would do the same thing.

It is what I'd expect junior football to be all about, but not all clubs are that good unfortunately.

Came out for the first time to watch the sunday sides this week.. and was stoked to see Lonsdale with a 14s side.. just wonder how many off these kids can be kept at the lions.. would be a shame to see the kids move to christies or morphies when going up to 16s.. any plans in place, Lion Heart/Waterboy, to keep the young lads at the Lion Den?

The main plan is to keep trying to get more 14s/16s to the club so we can field U16s next year. Beyond that trying to make the club something they want to be part of, and getting as many senior players as possible to show these kids that they are a welcome part of OSB/Lonsdale. We have a great junior committee who are making the club a great place for families. Friday nights the club is packed for junior presentations, with meals put on for the families. In the end it may not be enough as there will always be a percentage of kids/families who want to play for a winning team. That percentage is getting smaller as our junior teams get more competetive.
