Greenday - American Idiot the musical

I have never been to anything that could be considered a musical, I've not watched Grease, The Sound of Music, Hairspray etc etc...no, not for me.

Mrs Boon was keen on attending this one having seen Rock of Ages in Melbourne and several other stage productions, sure I said, I'll come along. We went "VIP" ( which I'm not sure how much it cost ) so we're front row. Well, I'm in it now!

Lights dim, the cast make their way onto the stage and the familiar lic's of "American Idiot" ring out from the band on stage as the cast all spring into action and Her Majetys fills with light. Great start to the show,

Lead character Johnny, his mates Will and Tunny are the lead characters in the show. Johnny, who gets introduced to the dark side by St Jimmy is a troubled kid with a troubled future ahead of him, Will and his young girl make a baby well before they're ready and Tunny heads off to war with two legs and returns with one. If a mug like me can keep up with the story line, anyone can.

They work through all of the "American Idiot" album along with some from "21st Century Breakdown", the three lead men had great voices, the three lead ladies great voices and more! ;) From a purely selfish point of view ( of which I had a great one! ) the girls costumes were pretty skimpy and they're fit, I mean fit.

The live band were accomplished, the support dancers well versed in their roles and St Jimmy the evil dark side of life suits Phil Jamieson to a tee, he clearly enjoyed the role. He was on stage for about 20 of the 90 odd minute show ( no intermission, I would have had a leak before if I had known! ) and relished it.

My only regret in this review is I can't urge you to go and see it if you haven't already as the Adelaide season wrapped up yesterday as the show moved to Perth.

I might not ever go to another musical/stage show, why spoil this one?

Dammit, if I knew Grinspoon were playing later at 8.15 I would of bought a ticket when they came out but didn't as I thought it would be an afternoon gig with it starting at 3.30 and I would miss it because of cricket.

Nope...he's not. Looks like they're "grassing" the car park.

I'm too old, I struggle to sit on a stool in a front bar for 2 hours.

Back on subject though, the Silverados are live at the Halfway Hotel this Saturday night. Even if you don't like them the front bar has an awesome bar man on. :D

Very interesting. Why the 'farewell'? Is Kerry King now too fat to get on a stage without it collapsing?

By the way, who's been filling Jeff Hanneman's spot on guitar since he departed this mortal coil? (and yes, I am too lazy to Google it).

It as Tom Araya who pulled the plug. Lost his passion for it after Jeff died, Jeff did a lot of song writing with him and it wasn’t the same without him.

The Butterfly Effect return to Australia for the first time in over 5 years with original front man, Clint Boge. Their Adelaide show is at HQ on 4th March.

I'll be heading along- their show at the Gov in 2011 was brilliant.

Cheers. And fair enough I suppose, they've written the book on how to be a successful metal band for close to 40 years without having to compromise.

To be honest, Slayer's not Slayer without Jeff's long blonde hair, LA Raiders jersey, and full shredding. RIP.
