Cover Hits for better or worse

About 90% of the time artists covering hits are seemingly inferior sounding.
Sometimes it irks me when nobody artists cover a hit and have success.
Occasionally the cover artists give a wonderful rendition of the original hit.
The theme of this thread is to relive some of those covers
Beatles
Song :Eleanor Rigby
This hit was covered by a South Aussie band about the late sixties called Zoot
Daryl Cotton and his band[including Rick Springfield] in my opinion sang the song better.
Beatles
Song : Help
This hit was covered by the Australian iconic king of pop Johnny Farnham
I reckon JF was a great singer but his version of Help was awful

Agree with Zoot cover of Eleanor Rigby -a great harder rocking version.
A couple of other good ones I'd nominate are
'Mad World' (original Tears for Fears) by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules.
'Real Love' (original John Lennon) by Regina Spektor

Listen to the Guns n' Roses album - The Spaghetti Incident...
That will turn you off of cover songs...
It's a clusterf**k of a album...

Agreed. But at least it made Brian James a millionaire overnight!

Sixpence None The Richer did a cover of "The La's" There She Goes. The original was much better.
I've just heard The White Stripes cover of "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" by Dusty Springfield and I reckon it's pretty good. Different, but good.

And Charles Manson as well.
Here are two of my favourite covers, both by the same band.

Is he the Crocker Shit? No! Is he the Crocker Barry? Yes!
I had all that on video and got a tidy price on eBay.
And FWIW: Rolf's version was brilliant. Plant was too precious about it.
