Triple J are polling a Hottest 100 of All Time countdown this July to be broadcast in August. The last of these was in 1998 with the top 20 looking like this:

1. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
2. Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me
3. Pearl Jam - Alive
4. Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
5. Radiohead - Creep
6. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
7. Metallica - One
8. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
9. Metallica - Enter Sandman
10. Pearl Jam - Black
11. U2 - One
12. Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People
13. Radiohead - Paranoid Android
14. Nine Inch Nails - Closer
15. Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun
16. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
17. Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name
18. The Living End - Prisoner of Society
19. Faith No More - Epic
20. Blink-182 - Dammit (Growing Up)

Any thoughts on how this could change or which songs will make the list from the last 11 years??

Will be full of Kings of Leon, MGMT and the like, Triple j 11 years ago was listened to by people who appreciated an alternative listen to the mainstream airwaves, nowadays it's alot more mainstream and popular among kids because they think it's cool. They still play that alternative music but the kids will flock to the songs they play which are also played on the other stations ie Sex on Fire. Still though looking forward to it

A few of my faves of all time off the top of my head

Pixies - Monkey Gone To Heaven, Where is My Mind
Sonic Youth - Disappearer, Teenage Riot
Teenage Fanclub - Everything Flows
Doves - Cedar Room
Buffalo Tom - Taillights Fade
Swervedriver - Rave Down
Radiohead - Paranoid Android, There There

Jeff Buckley...boring overrated faggot
Blink 182 One trick ponys not good enough to be punk, rock or pop. Red Hot Chilli Peppers did the naked thing first...
Zeppelin not as good as Hunters and Collectors LMFAO

Take those old records off the shelf...
I'll sit and listen to em by myself...
Today's music aint got the same soul...
I like that old time Rock'N'Roll

Generation X has no friggin clue and Generation Y is even worse. Go out and buy Miley Cyrus' new album NOW you friggin sheep. Triple J what a wank.

TOO OLD TO ROCK AND ROLL TO YOUNG TO DIE!

Settle down REB. Im pretty sure im generation Y. I cant stand some of the music played these days. Kings of Leon, Blink 182 and pretty much American music in general (There are a couple that i like), Rap, RnB... thats all crap. Miley Cyrus pfft...

Get into some Australian music... Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, Birds of Tokyo... and a bit of hip hop... hilltop hoods, pez

Im mainly a fan of indie music and generally stuff from England.

We arent all the same.

Just for REB ;) With thanks to TISM

Turn off the radio.
I've taken a drastic step:
From now on
I'm into Led Zep.

They don't do interviews
And they own a jet:
From now on
I'm into Led Zep.

Jimmy Page - best axeman?
You wanna bet?
From now on
I'm into Led Zep.

It's seventies rock,
The very worst you can get:
From now on
I'm into Led Zep.

I prefer this one from Screeching Weasel ;)

Robert Plant is a slimy f***
John Bonham man, he really sucked
Those greedy f******, those phoney shits
They made their money off idiots
I hate Led Zeppelin
12 dollar concerts were all the rage
They bought cocaine for Jimmy Page
"Stairway to Heaven" makes me see red
Bonzo's buried, only three more left
I hate Led Zeppelin

Few drinks there REB? Or red cordial?

Hard to judge a list of SONGS just by the artist alone :)

Very harsh view of Jeff Buckley.

Blink, agree - although they have one song in there - so... sorta makes sense ;)

They(any radio station) always have that song in any top 10, but never in the top three for whatever reason. I'd actually prefer Kashmir, to be honest.

here is the 10 I voted for, not expecting too many of them to make it

London Calling - The Clash
Train in Vain - The Clash
Like a Hurricane - Neil Young
Fields of Athenry - Dropkick Murphys
Am I Ever Going to See Your Face Again - The Angels ( 8) had to have this one)
Hey Jude - The Beatles
Rush - Big Audio Dynamite
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes

maybe London Calling and Blister in the Sun will get there

Geez I must be getting old, no. 6 is the only one I can consciously ever remember hearing, but I've never listened to Triple J for more than 5 minutes at a time. I prefer my pretentiousness more in the form of ABC Classic FM

Grabbed this from the Hottest 100 Twitter on the Triple J website :)

Just finished putting together my top 10 for the #hottest100 of all time. So hard to choose just 10 ELO songs. What a catalogue!
