Song To Remind You OF A Moment

Postby JK » Fri Mar 09, 2012 3:49 am

Work Road trip in early-mid 90's, Im with a younger colleague (and mate) on the way to Melbourne, and he starts playing all this dancey music, that isn't Metallica, AC/DC or Chisel so I do my best to reject it, but by the end I admit Im unwittingly tapping my feet away to La Bouche, Alex Party, Rosella etc (without letting on) as we reach the Ring Road in Melbourne.

Anyway, first time I ever walk into The Mens Gallery and this same music is playing, so thankfully I was accustomed to it (otherwise it could be quite a shock to walk into that place) .. But anytime now that I hear their music, the first thing I think of is that weekend that I learned to appreciate it, despite it not being my music of choice.

It's the weekend that I came .. Of age .. To full frontal music.

Good song, pops its head up randomly on my car rotation too...

As for a moment, A weekend in Melbourne with mates when I was about 19. One of my mates who hired a car just kept playing "Return of the Mack" over and over. Even now when I head to Melbourne for work, that freakin tune gets in there...

You Got It - Roy Orbison - reminds me of my wedding.

Beautiful Boy - John Lennon - Reminds me of the day my first born son was born and him passing away 2 hours later.

Most beautiful girl in the world - Prince. This played the day my daughter was born so i play it for her every time I get the chance.

About 15 years ago I had gone home to have tea, tell my partner we are over and then go to my footy club for a few beers after a win.
It wasn't a pleasant conversation but a huge weight off of my shoulders, I got in the car and "Psycho Killer" came on the radio, I turned it up full boar and it rocked out awesomely.
Love it every time I hear it now.

Murder on the dance floor was being played when my daughter was born.

Emporers New Clothes always reminds me of a pig I used to hang out of.

Got my first finger action with Blink 182- Josie (everything's gonna be fine) playing out the back while we'd snuck into a bedroom.

When I hear "Ventura Highway" by America it reminds me of driving out on the Nullarbor plain.

Monique Brumby's "Fool For You" brings back similar memories for me...
Politicians kissing babies for good luck,
TV preachers sell salvation for a buck.
You don't need no golden cross to tell you wrong from right,
The world's worst murderers were those who saw the light.
