Is Pink Overrated?

With her Australian tour here, I thought it was about time to see if she was worth the hype.

Many Australians seem to worship her, whereas in North America, she's nowhere near as big. Weird, huh?

No more overrated than many other bands..U2, Foo Fighters, The Doors, Coldplay etc. etc.

Now many won't agree with those "overrated" bands, but that's the point. Music is so different to everyone, that some will hate and others will love any style/artist.

The amount of shows that Pink sells out in Australia is probably due to her knowing her market and not breaking formula, and also that she seems to embrace Oz and put the effort in to bring her best here (including mostly overlooked little Adelaide)

Hard to say. She gets "thrashed on radio" all the time.

Personal taste I guess, does nothing for me and I would not buy her stuff.

I do think she is a pretty good role model for the youth of today. Especially young females.

Nah I don't think she is, her more popular songs are just thrashed on the radio so you get sick of them, like pretty much all artists these days. She does really well for herself in Australia, seems to have lot of fans, as posted above she does seem to embrace Australia quite alot.

From what I've seen in live videos she does put on a pretty damn good performance. My missus is going to her show on Thursday and she can't wait. I downloaded her new album for her the other week, heard some of the songs and they're not too bad, certainly not my favourite genre of music but I don't mind it.

1 - Music is impossible to "rate". Pseudo, LL and others will tell you millions can be wrong. IMO, millions cant be wrong. Something to be said for an artist being extremely popular as Pink is.

2 - Selling out 5 shows in a row in little old Adelaide! Bloody fair effort, not many if any artist has ever done that or their promoter been smart enough to make provisions for such an unflux of ticket sales. She's pretty clever I think.

3 - I bet she'd go off like a frog in a sock too!! ;)

So, is she over rated? Maybe, but I'd like the chance to find out. :D

Massively overrated. McDonalds is the biggest selling burger, but doesn't mean it's anywhere near the best.

Plus pink is a fugly pig.

Fair enough you don't rate her but this has to be the worlds biggest over exaggeration!!! Nothing is worth doing that!

Reakon the question is why does anyone rate her at all?

Because clearly (and bizarrely) they do.

The Pink phenomena genuinely puzzles me...

Likewise mate, I just don't 'get' her and the hype that goes with her. But then again, I'm not into popstars trying to come across as having attitude and thinking they're rockstars.

Pretty much..... ;)
I read a review of one of her albums in a Virgin in flight magazine once, and it said "Pink has produced a really good punk album". I just about lost a lung laughing. I said to Mrs Lindner "Throw out Rocket To Russia, Never Mind The Bollocks, Stranded and The Clash's first album. We are getting Pinks latest album."

Hahaha, I thought you were kidding around, after I looked at your signature. Sid, Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Joe would be turning in their graves if they heard she was being referred to as a punk.

Why do you have to "get" her, or any artist for that matter?

I'm not a fan of her music, but call it what you want and like it or leave it. Always puzzles me with music, how people who like something you dont must be wrong.

I knew LL would chime in. As sure as something about some old mob who sang something about a Milky Way or something or other. ;)

She actually is punk. She's new-punk.
Punk - a -cola.

An interesting book on the phenomena which sees the like of Pink labelled punk:
