HATERS gonna hate but Taylor Swift fans are on a cyber mission to get the star’s hit Shake It Off into the Triple J’s Hottest 100 poll.
Shake It Off received zero airplay on Triple J last year and is therefore not included in the list of aired songs included on the station’s website for Hottest 100 voting.
However the site allows listeners to add their favourite songs not on the list.
That means Swift fans gonna vote, vote, vote for Shake It Off hoping to have a victory against hipster musical snobbery.
Voting closes this Sunday night, with the Hottest 100 airing on Triple J from midday January 26.
Triple J station manager Chris Scaddan said the Swift action is completely within the rules.

Triple-J will ensure it doesn't hit no. 1 wouldn't they?

Triple J opened themselves up to this sort of chicanery when in a fit of self-absorption they allowed on-air identities to push for Bevan The Musical and the song by Wil Anderson and Adam Spencer to be manipulated into the charts in previous editions of the vote.

By the looks of it, there's nothing they can do about it.

When you vote you can manually enter a song, one not part of their list of 2000 they have selected.

So if enough people do this, it will ( could ) be #1.

PS: I like that Taylor Swift song. It's a good pop song. Doesn't pretend to be anything but.

I am not a Taylor Swift fan necessarially (don't love or hate her, just ambivalent) but the mean streak in me does enjoy seeing the JJJ crew sweat this one out, sorry guys. I have always felt a "hipster snobbery" that really comes out at at Hottest 100 time. So many people are suddenly too cool for commercial radio just cause they go to a mates' house for a Hottest 100 BBQ.

Before anyone thinks I am being a musical snob in reverse the event that sealed this debate for me was several years ago. I had a mate who was your stereotypical "hipster" JJJ listener. He played the guitar, was in an alternative music band and publicly rubbished what he judged as "commercial/top 40" music.

As soon as any band became popular or "mainsteam" he jumped off them. He put me onto various alternative music bands. Some of it was great, some of it was rubbish or just not my thing.

Then one day he made a bizarre admission that he made be swear to keep to myself. He said that in complete contradicition to his alternative musical persona his guilty pleasure was music by Sophie Ellis Bextor. Sophie Ellis Bextor was a mainstream FM commercial singer who had a massive no 1 hit at the time and some other follow up songs that charted. She was an equivalent to Taylor Swift. He was such a huge fan that he would play it on his Walkman in private and not tell a soul, not even his wife  He was adamant that his wife never find out!

He told me never to tell a soul. He said he would never live it down if his mates found out and was genuinely mortified at the prospect that he had told someone. I couldn't believe how serious he was about it.

While still a good guy, in my eyes he went from "hipster" to "hypocrite" - geez just like the music you like and don't like the music you don't like.

It all makes sense now. Crows fans trying to distract everyone from the fact that they appointed a captain with an IQ that matches his guernsey number.

Foo Fighters - Wheels wasn't played in '09 but came in at #100 in the countdown that year. So it's happened before.

There's been a few songs where that's happened, but not as part of an orchestrated campaign to hijack the count.
I think there was a U2 song (Vertigo?) that wasn't played on the station at all that reached the chart.

Like JK said surely in the backround they would meddle with the numbers to keep it out of the top 10

Either that or they'll keep highlighting it to motivate more JJJ listeners to vote to keep that top 40 filth out of their selective little list of approved music you have to like to be a hipster ha ha ;)

BTW, JJJ would be loving the publicity.

Or they'll play it, but say they're only playing it "ironically".

FFS well that's shit, f**king Taylor Swift. I voted for Australian rappers Allday and Illy who I love and get a fair bit of air time of JJJ, thought Illy would be a big chace to number this year, not now.

Coz stupid c**ts will vote for her. Would have heaps more fans than any other artist, they wouldn't be able to compete with Shake It Off.

With a beard, thick framed glasses, fixed wheel bike and short sleeve shirt buttoned up to the collar with the sleeves rolled up. Exactly the same as all the other individuals against conforming. ;)

Booney it's good that JJJ make it clear what 2,000 songs I need to listen to so I can be sure I am not conforming to any single media organization's agenda of what music is cool and what is not. Then I can pick my favourites out of their list of songs and I then I am not conforming to anything. I have made my own free will choice. 8)

I am taking the mickey here but I am fascinated with how this all unfolds. Hipster snobs beware!

(I am aware that many "hipsters" do not rely soley on JJJ to experience music and go to plenty of live gigs or listen to different stations. I am not stirring those hipsters - just those that only listen to JJJ and think that alone makes them alternative. I have seen dudes like this, they exist!)
