Possible changes to DT and SC in 2010

Postby Hondo » Wed Jan 06, 2010 9:44 pm

There's rumours flying around the internet forums about 2 possible changes for 2010:

- a rolling lockout where changes can be made post 7pm Friday night so long as the players' teams haven't played yet
- positional swapping for dual position players (without burning a trade presumably)

Both would be good changes for us coaches. We'll have to wait and see.

Does this mean that say, on Thursday the AFL season opener kicks off but you'd could make some changes prior to the Sunday game because cagey coaches have named huge squads on Thursday nights?

If that is the case that would be a good innovation.

Yes REB, that's what they are speculating

The rumour is coming out of DT circles with people hoping SC will follow

I'd like to see an SC Eliminator for a start.

Sort of kills the strategy a little bit, the rolling lockout will take out the chance factor during a match that could make or break a side given the info gained on a friday night.
Positional swapping is good for scores, but once again takes away a bit of difficulty by allowing people to cover 0s from other positions.
Both updates will be good for scores, but im not 100% sure thats good for the game.

Partial lock out is only for when there is a thursday night night game & the split round. Players who've already played will not be able to be edited in position (or become captain).
Players with the same dual postioning (ie. mid/back) will be able to be swapped without a trade. Good in principle, but most of the elite players have single classifications only
Eliminator will double in numbers

It would appear both the above changes apply to DT, but only the positional swapping change applies to SC? As far as I can tell after reading the rules of both anyway. Pity, the partial lock out rule is an excellent change.

There is a SC partial lockout for Round 1 and for the split round.

remind me, do we need to have our teams finalised by Round 1 or do we get free trades up to when the leagues start?

I see 1 unfair advantage the new mid/fwd rule gives.
ie. player A has
B.Harvey and M.Pavlich (both mid/fwds)
while player B has
R.Griffen and M.Pavlich (pav only Mid/fwd)

now Pavlich gets injured and both players decide to trade. Player A gets to swap him into the midfield for Harvey and get to trade for any Mid or Fwd they want, While player B having no Mid/Fwd has to trade out Pav for a fwd line player. Player A by picking another mid/fwd has the advantage of 2x trading options.

That's the potential advantage you get if you choose to use the MPP rule and take up a midfield spot with a Harvey or a ROK

Personally, I am leaning towards picking my optimal team rather than deliberately working in a MPP option that may give me a benefit.

Although Tippett in FWD and Lobbe in RUCK is a good option I think.

People who pick Ryan Griffen in SC deserve what they get.
