18 Les's Men 3 13 32166 33816 95.12 12

Unless I tip them this week, Hips Don't Lie look a certain finalist after they sensationally upset in form Delicious to jump into the top eight with one week remaining. Hippys have been scoring big for a number of weeks and they've certainly come good at the right time of the season and they will be a real handful for anyone who meets them next month. The biggest upset though was Q Before You who had a comfortable win over the ladder leaders who seemed to miss out on the scoring bonanza that was SuperCoach this week. These losses meant that ever consistent Benny Rolfs snuck up to second with minimal fanfare after they posted the regulation win over the now relegated Les' Men.

The REBCats ended Ecky's Fevolas winning streak to climb up to 5th while the Poon Army had an important victory over Longwood Lions in the predicted close tussle. Hondo is in real strife now after copping not only a loss to the mighty Captain Who but a fair dent in the percentage as well. The Honey Badgers got the chocolates against the Pool Swimmers so that's season over for them. SHARKS late season form has been pretty good and they cleaned up Richo Richo who have looked positively Bulldog like in their premiership defence despite being ranked 6th in the scoring. The relegation battle looks a done thing even though Underdogs seemingly opened the door a little with a win over third last Has Been. The problem for the Dogs is that they not only have to beat Captain Who they need to make up percentage as well and that aint happening.

I'm getting crucified by Rockliff. This week I had Rockliff 57 versus the captain's Sloane 162. Then a couple more X v Ys adding the remaining gap.

I really needed Yeo to play last round and get me that W ... anyway. One week to go = must win and hope other results go my way.

The Run Home - Round 17

1. Buddy Franklin 52 ( SHARKS)
A bit of a hiccup last week for Buddy against Q Man who suddenly found his scoring Mojo but I'd expect Buddy to bounce back over the SHARKS this weekend and secure top spot.

2. Ben Rolfsbergers 48 (REBCats,)
Ben Rolfsbergers just keep on winning and with the REBCats hit by the suspension of Zorko and Greene this last match swings in the Rolfs' favour. Second spot for Benny I think.

3. Delicious 44 ( Honey Badgers)
Deliciious didn't get the job done against the Hippys but should have no problems cleaning up the Honey Badgers in the last round and securing a date in the Qualifying Final against Ben Rolfsbergers next week.

4. Captain Who? 44 ( Underdogs)
Groover will sink the Underdogs this week with a big win but they probably need to rely on the REBCats to win to avoid playing Buddy Franklin in the first week of the finals. Captain Who are back in town this season and could appear in another Premier League Grand Final.

5. REBCats 36 (Ben Rolfsbergers)
Despite last weeks win, a couple of suspensions at just the wrong time of year means that the REBCats are not quite booked in to the finals this year. Four teams would need to overtake the Cats before we miss but some of the contenders appear to have easier matchups than the Catters do this week. Going to be touch and go but perhaps I think the Catters get seventh.

6. Hips Don’t Lie 36 (Ecky’s Fevolas)
A strong finish to the year sees Hips Don't Lie as the team most likely to win the premiership from the bottom half of the eight. Hippys are racking up 2400 pretty regularly now which means they are hot favourites for the match against Eckys and most likely their first finals opponent (which might be Hondo or REBCats) as well. I'll be hoping to avoid Hippys in the finals that's for sure.

7. Poon Army 32 ( Les’s Men)
Poony had to beat Alaska and they did which means all they have to do is roll Les's Men to make the finals this year. While it would be most amusing for Hammo to come ninth again I don't see it happening. Another win for the Army and 6th spot looks the likely outcome with an all Ipswich knockout final next week.

8. Ecky’s Fevolas 32 (Hips Don’t Lie)
Ecky had a disappointing loss against the REBCats and now they face an even better side in Hips Don't Lie. It's a much win match for Eckys who have done really well to get back into the finals race. From 5th to outside the finals a fortnight later is pretty harsh but that is scenario facing Ecky who didn't really give a yelp in what was a huge match last week. Ninth spot for the Ecky I think.

9. Longwood Lions 32 (Q Before You)
The Lions look a bit stiff here because while many sides above them copped a struggling Q Before You, Alaska looks like getting the full monty. For weeks I've been on the Lions to win this one but Q Man has roared home at the back end of the season and reveling in their role as the party pooper. 10th will be a poor result for what was at times a promising season.

10. Hondo SCC 32 (Pool Swimmers)
It's been a long time since Hondo was this low on the ladder this late in the year but I think they can leapfrog two teams and qualify for the eight yet again. Hondo is scoring very well but were outgunned by Captain Who last week but they should have no trouble accounting for the Pool Swimmers whose season is now over. Eighth and a match up against Hippys awaits.

Goodnight from me, and it's goodnight from them....

It's a fond fare-thee-well for Les's Men who have been a Premier League side for a number of seasons now but have secured the wooden spoon for 2017. The Bians found the heat too hot in the kitchen so they got out of it and the team that is most likely to join them in Division I next season is the Underdogs. It's been a massive fall from grace for the Underdogs who were 14-3 at the end of last season and challenging strongly for the premiership. The Underdogs need to thrash Captain Who and hope that Has Been flops to stay up and while it's possible for the latter to occur, no way is Gibbo cleaning up Groover and getting percentage as well. As they say in the classics...Hasta La Vista baby.

7. REBCats 36
8. Hondo 36

18 Les's Men 4 13 34327 35968 95.44 16

The story of the final round was Poon Army's sensational effort to finish ninth for the second year running. Last season Hammo was unlucky enough to miss the finals by .01% but this year they've managed to top it by losing by...you guessed it nine points to last placed Les's Men who have been cooked for weeks and everyone else has been beating up for fun. The other contender to miss out was Eckys Fevolas who had the misfortune to run into a red-hot Hips Don't Lie who looks a bit of a smoky to go deep into the finals. No offence Hondo but I'd rather play you mate.

REBCats are back in the Hogg Premier Finals for the first time in five years after they knocked off Ben Rolfsbergers and Longwood Lions made it two finals appearances in a row by cleaning up Q Man who at least avoided relegation after it looks decidedly dicey earlier in the year. It hasn't been Hondo's best year in terms of the win-loss record but scoring hasn't been an issue and they grimly hung on by 19 points over non-finalist Pool Swimmers.

Despite losing two in a row Buddy won the Minor Premiership and the cards have fallen their way as they have dodged the dangerous Delicious and Captain Who in the first week of the finals. Has Been made sure they would be in Premier League again next year with a last round win over a disappointing Richo Rich who didn't really fire a shot this season. The SHARKS finished very strongly but finished a game short which might be good news for some as they are scoring quite well but too little too late for Spiro. He'll have that win over Buddy to take with him into next season. Honey Badgers ended their season with a loss to the mighty Delicious but it was worse for Underdogs who were relegated after being thumped by Captain Who. Les's Men went down as well but as mentioned above they took Hammo down as a bit of a parting gift.

Looking ahead I'm liking whoever wins out of Delicous and Captain Who as a big chance to win the flag. Buddy Franklin has been the best all year and he could have been foxing a bit over the past fortnight while the rest of us tear ourselves to pieces but they suddenly look a little vulnerable. Out of the four REBCats might be able to hang around (or we might not bloody Greene) but it is Hips Don't Lie who look the most dangerous side in the bottom half. Hippys should be able to get over Longwood Lions so a cruel semi final against Captain Who or Delicious awaits.

I got lucky but maybe it was my turn for the luck. Pool Swimmers lost Gaz and didn't trade. Even with Gaz playing I should have won but for a series of misfires from my players of difference :

Hannas 74
Heeney 80
Jelwood 65
Treloar 86

Those guys conspired to make it a tough round to watch with my needing Stef Martin to go below 117 to get the W in the last game. Luckily he also had Zerrett and Rocky who stank. Rocky I think will cost me any chance this year with REB thankfully for him free of his current SC stench.

Rocky has probably cost me two games since he got injured.

Hogg Finals Preview

1st Qualifying FInal: Buddy Franklin vs. Ben Rolfsbergers

The Minor Premier deserves to go in favourites here with both sides a little off with their scoring in recent weeks. Both players have missed the carnage of the week with them only missing Danger with the coverage being SPP for Buddy and Greeenwood for the Rolfs. There isn't much in it there with Greenwood having the higher ceiling but SPP being slightly more consistent. Based on the ins and outs and scoring patterns for the year I'm selecting Buddy Franklin to advance with Ben Rolfsbergers to play the winner of the REBCats v Hondo Elimination Final.

Buddy Franklin by 88 points.

2nd Qualifying FInal: Captain Who vs. Delicious

The injury to Josh Kennedy has compounded the loss of Dangerfield for third ranked Delicious as they try to back up their win over the Captain from earlier in the season. At full strength I'd be on Delicious to get the job done but valleys might be forced to field Bolton if he decides not to burn a valuable trade in a double chance final. Even if he does there was not much between these two sides so things are looking up for the Captain. Multiple outs are a worry at this time of year, particularly if they are from the same part of the ground. Even worse when it's the Friday night game and you have to make your decision early. I reckon Delicious holds fire and hopes for a miracle...which he won't get. Captain Who to win through with Delicious to face the winner of Hips Don't Lie and Longwood Lions.

Captain Who by 62 points.

1st Elimination FInal: REBCats vs. Hondo SCC

The REBCats are back in the finals action but unfortunately for my boys I have no less than three outs this week. Meanwhile, Hondo's big problem is that Tom Rockliff's shoulder has all but fallen off and he is but a shadow of his former point scoring self. The REBCats will look to Zorko the magnificent to clean up Rocky and hope that the pointshy James Parsons can earn enough kicks to not to hurt us too badly. Luckily for the REBCats, I'm playing the only other top eight side who has Jarrod Witts or I might have been in real trouble here. I think I hang on but it's going to be tight.

REBCats by 40 points.

2nd Elimination Final: Hips Don't Lie vs. Longwood Lions

The situation in this match is very similar to the situation in the 2nd Qualifying Final as the Longwood Lions attempt to cover Josh Kennedy and Danger while Hips Don't Lie only has to cover Danger. Hips Don't Lie have roared into the finals and are in white hot form and Alaska's Lions have drawn the short straw. As has been mentioned a fair bit in recent weeks, the Longwood Lions have gone for a funky POD strategy which means they can do almost anything on a given day but Hips Don't Lie just look too strong and they should get the chocolates comfortably.

Hips Don't Lie by 129 points.

Good luck to all sides.

I did mate but elected to hold fire. My goal was to win my family league final without trading which I've managed to do. Got the week off and two trades left. Was going to go Witts- Gawn as well. Would have helped me this week but don't look now but Jelwood is gone. Too good mate.

Congratulations Hips Don't Lie, I wish I had your team, it looks fantastic, I don't know how you have put it together, especially with the lack of cash generation early on. I would say of those I have played recently you are the favourite for the title.
I lost all 4 of my leagues elimination finals so football is dead for another year. :(
The new strategy failed (To great a variation between the best and the worst) so back to the drawing board for 2019.

If you had told me before the round started that Heppell and Steele would go for 130+ and my Buddy only for 42 I would have said you would be easily home. Gawn and Macrae at 160 were the keys for me.

Finals Week 1

Qualifying Finals
Ben Rolfsburgers 2450
Buddy Franklin 2325

Captain Who? 2422
Delicious 2385

Elimination Finals
Hondo SCC 2396
REBCats 2281

Hips Don't Lie 2492
Longwood Lions 2291

With strong challenges coming every week, the Premier League is all about timing. Making sure that your scoring peak is happening at just the correct time in the season. At the moment those teams who appear to be in that zone are Captain Who and Hips Don't Lie, but Bens Rolfsburgers also might be just about to enter that zone as we come into the last three weeks of the year.

Benny Rolfs had a fine win over Buddy Franklin who have been the leading team in the league for many weeks but who now suddenly appear to be vulnerable. While 2325 certainly isn't a shit score Benny certainly put the foot down in comparison with recent weeks and have now zoomed straight past the Buddster with a fine 2450. The other Quallie was a desperate battle because the loser gets to face the unenviable task of halting Hips Don't Lie's run which is resembling Richo Richo's successful late run from last year more and more by the week. It was the Captain who got the result and all of a sudden the vanquished Delicious looks to be 50-80 points short of his major rivals.

In the knockout finals the more aggressive Hondo gambled and won as the REBCats relied on an understrength side to get the job done. Hondo's approach proved to be the successful one with new Hondoite Max Gawn's 160 a key plank in the successful result. Hips Don't Lie crushed Longwood Lions who will go back to the drawing board with is POD strategy next week despite a decent showing from Sam Menengola.

In the semis this week Delicious faces an uphill task to avoid going out in straight sets as he runs into Hips Don't Lie, a side that beat Delicious as recently as round 16. I think Hippy will get the double and advance. In the other Semi Buddy Franklin and Hondo face up but Hondo looks wrecked by this week's carnage and he may have played his Grand Final against the REBCats last week.

Im cooked.

Lost Merrett and Grundy this week with one trade left.

2 years in Premier League. 2 x Top 4 finishes and 2 x straight sets exits.

You talk about your losing record in GF's, REB. At least you can make a Granny.

Like my beloved PAFC- love me a good choke come finals time.

Semi Final Previews

1st Semi Final – Buddy Franklin vs. Hondo SCC
The Minor Premiers Buddy Franklin has a slight edge in the 1st Semi Final after Zac Merrett was the latest player to cop Blue Murder at the MRP this season. Both players have lost Joel Selwood from their midfields in what is Buddy’s only out for the match. Hondo also can’t rely on WitherTON to back him up in the backline although he doesn’t appear to have that DEF/MID to give him a third out for the midfield.
Without trades its Danger and Myers in for Selwood and Zerrett for Hondo while Buddy Franklin would have to rely on one of Mounty of North of Plod-Pepper of Port to fill in for Jelwood. Neither of these options look good for a side attempting to stay in the Premier League finals race so if there are any trades in the cupboard you’d think Jelwood would be gone. In a non-trading scenario I like Buddy to hit back from last week’s loss and to advance to the Preliminary Final to play against the Captain next week.

Buddy Franklin by 79 points.

2nd Semi Final – Delicious vs. Hips Don’t Lie

Second ranked Delicious faces the very real prospect of going out in straight sets against a red Hips Don’t Lie in the second semi final. Valleys has lost one of their ruck options and has copped a double whammy in midfield WitherTON and Zerrett out for Delicious. While Hippys has Zerrett out as well he can cover with Danger and come out in front. The loss of WitherTON hurts Delicious because they would then be forced to play Jake Lloyd in the mids and since McVeigh has come back there has been bugger all points on offer for Jakey. Hips Don’t Lie has the luxury of hiding the inconsistent Nank and they can rely on some decent PODs in Jake Kelly, Luke Paker, Max Gawn and the suddenly in form Adam Treloar. For Delcious the best POD is Jack McRae but he might just have the wrong Crouch brother on board. Oliver will stand up for Delicious but it looks like they will fall short and punted in straight sets. Hips Don’t Lie to win through and face Ben Rolfsbergers in the Prelim next week.

Hips Don’t Lie by 101 points.

In the battle of the under-performing starters I lucked out with 3 (Gawn, Ryan and Neale) to Buddy's 2 (Newman and Heppell) and fell a measely 7 points short.

I was tossing up Kelly (132) or Neale (44) as a trade in for Selwood and picked badly. There were about 10 others I could have chosen ahead of Neale as it turned out.

Even with Neale and Ryan on field for about 76 points going into Sunday it was me Gawn + Ryder verses McEvoy + 63 so I thought I was likely to win still ... and then Gawn pulled out a 56 on me ( :( ) and it then came down to Ryder v McEvoy + 7 and in the end Ryder and McEvoy broke even.

Buddy must have traded out Danger last week because that was looking to be the key part if I won. I got the 141 plus he was my captain whereas Buddy didn't have the luxury of VCing Danger like I did.

Genuinely stunned to have won that. I was so confident i'd get rolled that I didn't check the scores all weekend, instead focusing on my Supercoach Draft Prelim haha.

Back luck Hippy's- certainly the form side of the comp up until last weekend. I got a bit lucky with a few POD's.

Onto the prelim!

I note he also made a bad captain's choice that made a big difference.

Neale is the biggest tease. A player I would never pick. You were dead stiff mate.
