Hogg Shield Grand Final Thread 2017

Postby Rik E Boy » Wed Aug 23, 2017 10:05 pm

So it has come to this, the SuperCoach Grand Final weekend. Seems like only last week that I was nagging latecomers into joining their leagues and now all of the promotion and relegation has been settled and premierships are there to be won. Go at it ladies and gents, all Hogg Grand Final talk in here.

HOGG ELITE LEAGUE

2. TEAM_FISH vs. 4. Hips Don't Lie

Grand Finals TEAM_FISH 1 (Division II winner 2013), Hips Don't Lie 4 (Division III runner up 2011, Hogg Elite winner 2015, Division runner up II 2015, Division I runner up 2016)

These two sides have both had a cracking year and one stage Hips Don't Lie looked in good shape to be the first team to win the elusive Premier League/Elite League double until they came undone in the Semi Finals. FISH has the edge in overall scoring but this final will be an absolute belter that is almost too tough pick. Hippy has actually won the Elite league before so this is not new territory for them. Hips Don't Lie are suiting up for 4th Hogg Grand Final in three seasons but there is something about FISH at the moment, they look ready to scale new heights with Hippys Grand Final record almost rivalling the REBCats with three GF losses.

HOGG PREMIER LEAGUE

2. Captain Who vs. 3. Delicious

Grand Finals - Captain Who 3 (Hogg Premier 2012 winner, Hogg Premier 2013 runner up, Hogg Champions League runner up), Delicious 3 (Division V runner up 2010, Division II runner up 2014, Division I winner 2015)

These two sides are the last two standing after the best Premier League competition we have ever had. Plenty of guns sides are watching on this weekend as these two slug it out. The Captain is back in the Grand Final for the first time in four years after the second Captain Who vs. Q Before You final which was the big rivalry back then. Delicious has stepped up to make a fine rivalry with the Captain who is now back to his best and is a favourite to take out the title. After scoring 2600 last week and having already accounted for Delicious in this year's finals Groover is looking good to be only the second coach in Hogg history to win the Premier League title twice. If anyone can pull off the upset though, it is Delicious who looked to be in all sorts a fortnight ago but here they are.

HOGG DIVISION I

1. Inner Sanctum vs. 3.TEAM_FISH

Grand Finals - Inner Sanctum 0, TEAM_FISH 1 (Division II 2013 winner)

Inner Sanctum joined the Hogg at the same time as Mediocre at Best and while both are top sides this is Sanctum's moment in the sun. They've reached their first Grannie after topping the table and being the best side in Division I all season finishing well clear of the challengers. While TEAM_FISH are red hot at the moment they are challenging for a rare high level double. Seeing as this sort of double happens so rarely and given the fact that Inner Sanctum have led the way all season, I'm selecting Inner Sanctum to finish the job and win what can be seen almost a Hogg Premier trial match..oh..with a flag at the end.

HOGG DIVISION II

2. Jims TigerRoos vs. 4. Professor Crow

Grand Finals - Jims TigerRoos, Professor Crow 0.

With DaisysDuds falling over and Straycat Strut not up to task the promotion spots were won by the Professor and the TigerRoos who have both qualified for their first Hogg Grand Final. Seeing as both of these teams have been around for a few years, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Professor Crow managed to get the win over the seemingly unbeatable DaisysDuds earlier in the year and looked the main challenger before a late season form slump saw them almost miss the top four. Mythical Creature's TigerRoos were good enough to hang around all year and hang on to their top four spot despite some tough opposition. A wobbly win over the decimated Straycats made me question the TigerRoos until they promptly rolled out the big guns to win through to the Grand Final. Much to Creature's relief, I'm tipping against him again as the Professor looks set to hand out a SuperCoach lesson. Thank me later dude!

HOGG DIVISION III

2. Chicken Noodles vs. 6. Underbelly

Grand Finals - Chicken Noodles 0, Underbelly 3 (2015 Piglet Shield runner up, 2016 Piglet Shield runner up, 2016 Division V runner up)

Chicken Noodles overtook Right Nut in recent weeks as the best side in Division III but over the course of the last four games Underbelly's scores have been growing at a rapid rate due to a prudent preservation of trades. I just got flogged in the Piglet Prelim by Underbelly and I can say from experience that there are few weaknesses in my sister's team. A quick look at Underbelly's Grand Final will show for sure that she is a blood relative, three straight losses! Even though Underbelly is primed for a big crack at this title, I still have the Noodles ahead in what should be a very close Grand Final. I reckon Kel goes 0-5 after this weekend.

Hogg Division IV

1. Shanes Superboots vs. 2. FNQ Trotters

Grand Finals, Shane Superboots, FNQ Trotters 0.

The Superboots are the number one team in the Hogg and this weekend they play the only side in the league that can realistically challenge Shaneo. The Superboots cracked 2600 last week but the Trotters came very close to scoring this last week so the Superboots could have a tough match on their hands in this one. It's hard to go past the best side in the Hogg though so I reckon he will salute in a game that will score enough to belie the low status of this league. These have been the best two sides all year and you could see this match up coming. This week Shanes Superboots will complete the job.

PIGLET SHIELD

1. FNQ Trotters vs. 4. Underbelly

Grand Finals - FNQ Trotters 0, Underbelly 3 (2015 Piglet Shield runner up, 2016 Piglet Shield runner up, 2016 Division V runner up)

Underbelly have qualified for their third straight Piglet Shield (that's my family league folks) but they play their bogey side, Mum! Ah, that moment when your Sister and your Mum are better at SuperCoach than you are. You're cooked REB! As mentioned in the Divvy III preview, Underbelly have been steadily building in recent weeks but that FNQ Trotters side looks pretty awesome to me and I reckon Kels will have a duck egg next to her name in Hogg Grand Finals after two more cracks at this weekend. Underbelly have history of puzzling moves and chokes that would make Collingwood of the 70's blush and I reckon the Trotters will salute and win their first ever Piglet Shield.

HOGG DIVISION V

3. SA Rapids vs. 6. Herbs'N'Spices

Grand Finals - SA Rapids 0, Herbs'N'Spices 1 (Division VI runner up 2016)

For the second year in a row Herbie has qualified for the lowest Hogg League Grand Final and the big fellow is up against a junior player in his first season of SuperCoach. It was tempting to bill this match as David and Goliath as Herbie clocks the tape at 200cm but apparently Brodlach Junior stands at almost six feet himself so 'Land of the Giants' it is! SA Rapids have had the superior form over the season but this one will be close as neither of these sides would realistically challenge for a Grand Final berth in any other Hogg League. So here is a chance to win a Hogg flag and in the case of Brod Jnr a flag at this stage would be considered ahead of time. I reckon he gets there as Herbie is a reactive trader and with Brodlach in his corner SA Rapids might just sneak over the line. Or maybe he wins easily if Dad keeps his nose out. :D

SA Rapids by 40 points.

Lovely work as always REB!

This one has a bit of 2014 Divvy II about it for me, where I limped through to the GF only to get slapped.

The Captain has me well and truly covered in this game.

How many more Runners-up titles left until I catch the great man? 8)

I hope you're right REB, but TEAM_FISH played their "grand final" last week in an all out effort to gain promotion. Not much left in the tank I'm afraid.

Cheers Groover. You have had a cracking season, and were unlucky to lose.

You play Bud over Nank and the result is a forgone conclusion. Very happy to pinch the win!
